Betly, West Virginia’s only online casino and sportsbook, has inked a partnership with Playtech and will utilize their technology moving forward. This move to another technology platform is the third one Delaware North, the owner of Betly, has done so far this year.
At first, Betly was originally launched as a pure play online sportsbook that was running on IGT technology, but it was shut down less than two months later. Its second iteration was then with Gamewise, a Belgian technology provider.
Delaware North, which also operates Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island retail casinos in West Virginia, has positioned this partnership as a strategic step forward to make Betly one of the best online casinos in the state.
Third Time’s the Charm
In a press release from Playtech, Delaware North’s Chief Interactive Gaming Officer Lee Terfloth noted that the partnership between Betly and Playtech is the way to move forward on its goal to provide the best online casino experience for the players in the Mountain State:
“We are very pleased to partner with Playtech to provide Betly customers with an enhanced mobile sports betting and online casino experience powered by an industry leader.”
Terfloth also stated that with the partnership with Playtech, Betly can now offer players robust promotional features through the Playtech platform, which will allow Betly to offer customers an array of enticing and personalized offerings, including bonus bets, boosts, drawings and tournaments.
This will give players real money online casino experience tailored content to engage them based on their historical betting activity.
The Impact of Playtech Partnership With Betly
Playtech has been one of the long-standing online casino platform providers that offer quality online betting experiences. With operations in over 20 countries and a workforce of more than 7,900 employees, Playtech has established itself as a leader in both casino-style games and sports betting services.
Its recent expansion into live dealer gaming has positioned it to meet growing demand in markets like West Virginia. A key addition could be Playtech’s live-dealer games, which are likely to become a feature of the revamped Betly platform.
West Virginia’s partnership with Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board allows games to be streamed from Pennsylvania-based studios. Playtech, having recently obtained a license to provide live dealer games in the state, is positioned to expand its reach and introduce unique offerings to Betly customers.
Playtech CFO Chris McGinnis stated in a recent earnings call that the company’s commitment to growth in the live gaming sector is of utmost importance,
“We’re expanding all three of our Live Casino facilities and I would say expanding quite aggressively actually because of the demand that’s coming in.”
McGinnis also added that as its Pennsylvania studio scales up operations, players in West Virginia can expect a wider range of live-dealer options in the near future. It’s likely that the new Betly site will feature live dealer games from Playtech’s Pennsylvania-based live gaming studios.
What is the Future of Online Casinos in West Virginia?
West Virginia has a rather unique setup compared to other iGaming states. Primarily, the Mountain State doesn’t require games to be streamed from within its borders. This can be attributed to the state regulator having a deal in place with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to use that state’s studios.
That said, while Betly is steadily solidifying its hold and presence in the online casino industry, it would be too early to determine whether they’d look into more digital online casino opportunities such as crypto casinos.
