Free Consensus NHL Picks for Every Game

The suggestions on our NHL Picks page are based on the market consensus (the most common pick) from free picks providers across the sports betting industry such as Covers, Sports Betting Dime, Pickswise and more.

Those market consensus picks pair with the best available betting lines from our recommended sportsbooks, giving you a best point spread, total (over/under), and moneyline bets for every NHL game throughout the season.

NHL Consensus Pick Examples

Boston Bruins Montreal Canadiens NHL Picks

In these examples, the Boston Bruins are playing the Montreal Canadiens which is one of the biggest historical rivalries in sports.

Let’s say that all five sources provided by Betting News are picking the Bruins to win the game, and the best line available for that pick is -160 at BetDSI.

Four out of five sources provided by Betting News are picking the total to go over, and the best line available for that pick is over 6 (-110) at BetUS.

However, three out of five sources Betting News monitors are picking the Canadiens to cover the puck line and the best price available for that pick is +1.5 (-140) at Bovada.

Our NHL game articles often refer to these picks, with our writers either siding with the pick or going against it based on individual analysis.

Bettors can then use that information to help determine which games to bet on and where to place bets on those games.

How Is the Market Consensus Calculated?

Connor McDavid Nathan MacKinnon Edmonton Oilers Colorado Avalanche NHL Picks

Betting News uses predicted scores advertised by free picks providers to determine the market consensus.

Each provider gives us an exact score projection, which we take into account when calculating the consensus picks on the ML, PL, and total for each NHL game.

The consensus lines for that game are:

  • Moneyline: Bruins -160/Canadiens +120
  • Total: OVER 6 (-110)/UNDER 6 (-110)
  • Puckline: Bruins -1.5 (+115)/Canadiens +1.5 (-140)

Now, based off these projection, and the best lines from our providers, here is how we would recommend betting.

These would be our consensus NHL Pick.

With all of our experts siding with the Bruins, we would recommend betting them as well. We would point you towards MyBookie, which has the best price of -160.

The same logic applies for betting on the total and the PL.

We had 80% of experts siding with the over in our example. Therefore, we would point you towards BetUS to bet over 6 at (-110) which is the best line available. There might be markets hanging 6.5, so be sure to line shop and save yourself a goal.

With the PL, we had 60% of our experts think the Canadiens would cover the +1.5. Sending you to the best line at Bovada, we would recommend betting +1.5 at (-140) odds.

NHL Picks FAQs

How do NHL consensus picks work?
We monitor top NHL betting information providers and aggregate the picks and predictions they’ve made on specific games. The pick most heavily promoted by the sources we’re monitoring will be the consensus pick for that market.
What's the difference between NHL consensus picks, computer picks and expert picks?
The consensus NHL picks we present are gathered using computer and expert-generated picks from industry-leading sources.
Will computer NHL picks always win?
Even if all of the data supports a pick, that does not mean it will win. No one wins 100 percent of the time, human or computer. But by utilizing reliable computer picks and other content--like the content that found on Betting News--and other research resources, sports betting can be very profitable.
