Free Consensus NHL Picks for Every Game

Sidney Crosby Evgeni Malkin Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Picks

The suggestions on our NHL Picks page are based on the market consensus (the most common pick) from free picks providers across the sports betting industry such as CBS Sports, Sports Betting Dime, Pickswise and more.

Those market consensus picks pair with the best available betting lines from our recommended sportsbooks, giving you a best point spread, total (over/under), and moneyline bets for every NHL game throughout the season.

NHL Consensus Pick Examples

Boston Bruins Montreal Canadiens NHL Picks

In these examples, the Boston Bruins are playing the Montreal Canadiens which is one of the biggest historical rivalries in sports.

Five out of five sources provided by Betting News are picking the Bruins to win the game, and the best line available for that pick is -135 at MyBookie, which we will call Sportsbook A.

Four out of five sources provided by Betting News are picking the total to go over, and the best line available for that pick is over 6.5 (-105) at BetUS, which we will call Sportsbook B.

Three out of five sources Betting News monitors are picking the Canadiens to cover the puck line and the best price available for that pick is +1.5 (-165) at Bovada, which we will call Sportsbook C.

Our NHL game articles often refer to these picks, with our writers either siding with the pick or going against it based on individual analysis.

Bettors can then use that information to help determine which games to bet on and where to place bets on those games.

Betting News Best Bets on our NHL Picks page are subject to change based on how we calculate market consensus. Best Bets are also not financial advice. Please gamble responsibly.

How Is the Market Consensus Calculated?

Connor McDavid Nathan MacKinnon Edmonton Oilers Colorado Avalanche NHL Picks

Betting News uses predicted scores advertised by free picks providers to determine the market consensus.

Let’s expand on the above example:

  • Source 1 is predicting a 4-3 win for the Bruins
  • Source 2 is predicting a 5-3 win for the Bruins
  • Source 3 is predicting a 4-2 win for the Bruins
  • Source 4 is predicting a 4-3 win for the Bruins
  • Source 5 is predicting a 4-3 win for the Bruins

The consensus lines for that game are:

  • Moneyline: Bruins -135/Canadiens +115
  • Total: OVER 6.5 (-105)/UNDER 6.5 (-115)
  • Puckline: Bruins -1.5 (+140)/Canadiens +1.5 (-165)

Based on those predictions and consensus lines, we would list Bruins -135 at MyBookie/Sportsbook A (they’re offering the best price at the consensus line) as the best moneyline bet. Five out of five sources have predicted a Boston win.

However, if three sources were to pick the Canadiens instead, our suggested pick would change. Why would that be? Only two out of five sources would be predicting that the Bruins would win the game. Therefore, Canadiens ML would be the best moneyline bet.

If Canadiens +125 at BetUS/Sportsbook B is the best line available for that consensus pick, we would then list it as our recommendation.

The same applies to over/under betting, as well as puck line betting.

For the over/under, we would list over 6.5 (-105) at BetUS/Sportsbook B as the bet total bet. Four out of five sources have a predicted score that would see the over hit.

And for the puck line, we would list Canadiens +1.5 (-165) at Bovada/Sportsbook C, as three out of five sources are predicting the Canadiens to cover the puck line.

NHL Picks FAQs

How do NHL consensus picks work?
We monitor top NHL betting information providers and aggregate the picks and predictions they’ve made on specific games. The pick most heavily promoted by the sources we’re monitoring will be the consensus pick for that market.
What's the difference between NHL consensus picks, computer picks and expert picks?
The consensus NHL picks we present are gathered using computer and expert-generated picks from industry-leading sources.
Will computer NHL picks always win?
Even if all of the data supports a pick, that does not mean it will win. No one wins 100 percent of the time, human or computer. But by utilizing reliable computer picks and other content--like the content that found on Betting News--and other research resources, sports betting can be very profitable.
