Canada Online Casinos: Ontario Hits CA$22.7 Billion in Q3 of 2024

Ontario gamblers have set a record in online gambling wagers in Q3 of 2024, as reports indicated that players spent CA$22.7 billion. This is the highest quarterly amount that iGaming Ontario, the province’s regulatory body that oversees iGaming within Ontario’s territory.
According to the report, Q3 saw the total market spend was 32% higher than in the same quarter of 2023-24. Moreover, this number is also 22% ahead of Q2 of the current financial year. Ontario’s Q3 ran for the three months to 31 December 2024.
Overall Gross Gaming Revenue settled at $826 million, which saw a 26% year over year and 12% month over month increase. Again, this makes it the best quarter on record for Ontario’s regulated market, which is approaching its third anniversary.
Since Onatrio’s iGaming market opened in April 2022, online casinos have seen significant growth compared to sports betting and other digital gaming. Of the $22.7 billion total quarterly spend, $18.9 billion (83%) was on online casino games, up 38% on the previous year.
Online casino revenue was up 37% to $644 million, roughly 78% of total GGR. That said, iGaming’s percentage share in handle was down slightly from last quarter’s 86%, but its GGR share was up from 75%.
iGaming Ontario Updates Availability of their Online Gambling Information
Previously, iGaming Ontario published their data on a quarterly basis. This change to their reporting was to improve the disclosure of iGaming information for its residents and stakeholders. Data is now available for each month since Ontario has legalized online casino gaming back in April 2022,
“[The change in reporting]… is the result of our decision to be more transparent by sharing aggregate revenue and market insight figures more frequently, and in a format that is easier to ingest and analyze,” the agency stated.
Furthermore, iGaming Ontario currently has no plans to break data down by operator, since the province currently has a saturated market that hosts 50 operators across 83 websites as of Dec. 31.
The latest online casino Canada operator to enter the iGaming market was Aristocrat Interactive white-labeled brand Betiton, which launched in December. More than 20 pending operator applications are waiting throughout the year.
