The 2022 USFL regular season has come to an end, leaving four teams to compete for the championship as the playoffs are set to begin this weekend. One of these highly anticipated matchups is an intriguing meeting between the Philadelphia Stars and New Jersey Generals.
The Stars placed second in the North Division following a 6-4 record this season. Even though they haven’t been the best team throughout the year, a 4-1 record in their last five games gives them some momentum ahead of the postseason.
At the same time, no team is hotter than New Jersey. After losing the season-opener to the Birmingham Stallions, the Generals have rattled off nine consecutive wins and have shown no hints of slowing down any time soon.
Here’s a look at the latest Breakers vs. Stallions odds from BetOnline Sportsbook, as well as a prediction for this USFL playoff game.

Philadelphia Stars vs. New Jersey Generals Betting Outlook
Even though their regular-season records make this matchup look lopsided on paper, the Stars and Generals are two of the hottest teams in the USFL at the moment. Needless to say, anything could happen when they meet on Saturday afternoon.
On one hand, the Stars owned the best offense in the league this season, averaging a USFL-best 26.2 points per game. For reference, the Generals averaged 23.2 PPG, which was good enough for third-best among all eight teams.
Stars running back Matt Colburn II will be looked at to play a big role this weekend. The 24-year-old rusher led his team with 457 yards on the ground (4.5 yards per carry) and found the end zone eight teams, which was second-best among the league’s RBs.
Meanwhile, the Generals have the best overall run game in the USFL, having averaged a league-high 160.6 rushing yards per game while scoring a whopping 18 TDs on the ground this year.
At the end of the day, it’s not going to be easy for the Stars to win. While they boast a world-class offense, the Generals only surrendered 182 points in 2022, giving them the third-best scoring defense in the USFL.
Philadelphia wasn’t as fortunate, though, giving up a total of 243 — tied with the last-place Pittsburgh Maulers for worst in the league.
Fans actually got a taste of this playoff matchup in Week 10 when the Stars and Generals met in New Jersey. It looked like it was going to be a blowout after the Generals led 14-3 after the first quarter, but the Stars made it a close game, ultimately losing by a final score of 26-23.
Considering how the Generals also defeated the Stars, 24-16, in Week 5, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that fans are leaning towards a New Jersey victory. As great as Philadelphia can be, there’s a reason why the North Division leaders have rattled off nine straight victories.
It could end up being a closer game than some are anticipating, but the fact remains that this is the Generals’ game to lose until proven otherwise.
Philadelphia Stars vs. New Jersey Generals USFL Playoff Game Prediction and Best Bet
Prediction and best bets are from Thursday, June 23.
Prediction: Generals 26, Stars 20
Best Bets: Generals -4.5 (-110 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
Much like the two regular seasons meetings went, I expect the Generals to leave Canton with a victory over the Stars. As great as Philadelphia has been over the last month, New Jersey has been succeeding longer and I don’t expect that trend to end this Saturday.
As for the best bet, I’m taking the Generals to cover the 4.5-point spread at -110. They won their nine games this season by an average of six points, so beating the Stars by at least five shouldn’t be much of an issue at all.
Again, this Saturday’s Stars vs. Generals matchup should be closer than some fans are anticipating, but New Jersey is the all-around better team and unless Philadelphia can get off to a hot start, it’s smart to follow the odds there.
