Time has flown by and we’re already nearing the end of the 2022 USFL season. Week 8 is finally here and there are several intriguing matchups scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
The action kicks off on Friday with a matchup between the Pittsburgh Maulers (1-6) and the North Division-leading New Jersey Generals (6-1). On Saturday, the New Orleans Breakers (5-2) look to be the first team this season to hand the Birmingham Stallions (7-0) their first defeat.
Fans will then be treated to a pair of contests on Sunday, first when the Michigan Panthers (1-6) visit the Philadelphia Stars (4-3). The weekend will then close out with a Houston Gamblers (1-6) vs. Tampa Bay Bandits (3-4) collision.
Here’s a look at the betting odds heading into each USFL Week 8 matchup, as well as a pick and prediction for each contest.
USFL Week 8: Pittsburgh Maulers vs. New Jersey Generals Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Pittsburgh Maulers +8.5 (-110), New Jersey Generals -8.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 41.5 (-110), UNDER 41.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Pittsburgh Maulers +310, New Jersey Generals -400

Fans can expect somewhat of a mismatch here with both the Maulers and Generals heading in opposite directions when it comes to the USFL standings.
After beginning the season with a loss, New Jersey has now won six consecutive games and it doesn’t look like the team plans to slow down. The Generals also have some momentum on their side following a 20-13 victory over the Bandits last week.
Meanwhile, the Maulers continue to be outplayed by just about everyone they face. After securing their first victory in Week 5, they’ve since lost back-to-back outings, including a 26-10 loss to the undefeated Stallions over the weekend.
Pittsburgh and New Jersey already met once this season, resulting in a 21-13 road victory for the Generals in Week 4. With the latter being the home team this time around, it’s going to be even tougher for the Maulers to find any success.
Prediction: Generals 30, Maulers 14
Best Bet: Generals -8.5 (-110)
New Orleans Breakers vs. Birmingham Stallions Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: New Orleans Breakers +3 (-110), Birmingham Stallions -3 (-110)
- Total: OVER 44.5 (-105), UNDER 41.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: New Orleans Breakers +145, Birmingham Stallions -170

Unlike the first USFL Week 8 matchup, Saturday’s game between the Breakers and Stallions should be a much closer contest. After all, these two teams are among the best that the league has to offer.
New Orleans is going to be hungry because the franchise has a shot at clinching a playoff berth if they can win and the Bandits lose to the Gamblers on Sunday. The Breakers have now won back-to-back games, however, both of those wins have come against the basement-dwelling Maulers and Panthers.
Meanwhile, people are wondering if anyone can stop the Stallions. They’ve now won three consecutive games by double-digit totals, outscoring opponents by an average of 29.7 to 16.7 over that stretch.
The Breakers didn’t pose much of a threat when they lost 22-13 to the Stallions in Week 3 and it’s tough to imagine this matchup being any different.
Prediction: Stallions 31, Breakers 20
Best Bet: Over -44.5 Points (-105)
USFL Week 8: Michigan Panthers vs. Philadelphia Stars Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Michigan Panthers +5.5 (-110), Philadelphia Stars -5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 47.5 (+100), UNDER 41.5 (-120)
- Moneyline: Michigan Panthers +190, Philadelphia Stars -230

The Stars are another team that has a shot a locking down a playoff spot to week. But to do that, they must first get past the lowly Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
After a loss to the Stallions in Week 5, Philadelphia has been firing on all cylinders. The Stars are winners of their last two games, where they scored exactly 35 points in each contest. The defense wasn’t exactly there, though, but that’s shouldn’t matter too much against their Week 8 opponents.
On the other hand, the Panthers have been close to the bottom of the USFL standings for quite some time now. Michigan’s lost four games in a row, giving up 20-plus points in three of those contests.
Nevertheless, it was a surprisingly close affair between these teams when they faced off in Week 4, ending in a 26-25 victory for Philadelphia. Only time will tell if the upcoming matchup is just as close.
Prediction: Stars 25, Panthers 20
Best Bet: Under -41.5 Points (-120)
Houston Gamblers vs. Tampa Bay Bandits Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Houston Gamblers +5.5 (-110), Tampa Bay Bandits -5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 44.5 (-110), UNDER 41.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Houston Gamblers +190, Tampa Bay Bandits -230
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
The Bandits look to keep their USFL postseason dreams alive when they host the Gamblers to close out Week 8 on Sunday.
Even though the Gamblers aren’t much of a threat, the Bandits have actually lost back-to-back games, so morale isn’t exactly that high. They also barely beat the Gamblers the last time they went head-to-head in Week 3, so it’ll be interesting to see if things have changed.
It’s been all downhill for the Gamblers ever since their Week 1 victory. Six straight losses have kept them at the bottom of the standings with no end in sight. They’ll need to step up their game if they hope to give Tampa Bay another close affair.
The Bandits only managed to edge the Gamblers by one point in their last meeting, so they need to do a better job of asserting dominance. However, with the way things have gone for Tampa Bay lately, nothing is guaranteed.
Prediction: Bandits 23, Gamblers 17
Best Bet: Bandits -5.5 (-110)
