The Houston Astros (43-42) seek to avoid back-to-back losses when they face the Toronto Blue Jays (39-46) on Wednesday for the third encounter of their four-game series at Rogers Centre.
The Blue Jays opened the series with a massive 7-6 win over the Astros, ending the latter’s three-game winning streak in the process. George Springer led the charge with a three-run homer in the third inning while Jose Berrios improved to 8-6 on the season with a five-inning effort.
Can Houston rebound from yesterday’s loss? Or will Toronto send the Rogers Centre crowd home happy with another victory?

Astros vs Blue Jays Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/3)
Even though they came up short last night, there are plenty of reasons to believe that the Astros will bounce back tonight.
For starters, last night’s defeat wasn’t all bad. Even if things didn’t go their way, the Astros still outscored the Blue Jays 6-0 in the final five innings of the game, giving them some momentum ahead of tonight’s tilt. In fact, Toronto didn’t have a single hit after Addison Barger recorded a double in the fourth inning.
It’s also possible that the Jays’ win was nothing more than a fluke. After all, Toronto is a putrid 4-10 SU across its last 14 games and hasn’t won consecutive outings since June 15/16 — nearly a month ago.
On the flip side, the Astros have an 11-3 SU record in its 14 previous outings and have won five of its last seven road matchups. Additionally, Houston has only suffered back-to-back losses once since May 30, going 8-1 SU with a plus-2.9 average run margin following its last nine losses.
Will the Astros bounce back from yesterday’s loss?
Despite yesterday’s loss, Houston has still outplayed Toronto more often than not in recent collisions. The Astros have outscored the Blue Jays by a total of 28-10 in their last five meetings, picking up three wins along the way.
The Astros are also 6-1 SU In their last seven AL matchups while the Blue Jays have dropped six of their eight previous games on a Wednesday.
Houston also tends to play well with Ronel Blanco on the mound, going 11-4 in his 15 starts thus far. The 30-year-old righty has also allowed more than two earned runs once in seven road starts, pitching to a 5-1 record with a 2.36 ERA and 1.095 WHIP along the way.
As for the Blue Jays, Yusei Kikuchi is trending in the wrong direction. The 33-year-old veteran began the season strong, but allowing 13 earned runs and five homers on 19 hits across his last 11 innings (10.64 ERA) has left many concerned.
The Blue Jays need LHP Yusei Kikuchi to break out of his slump if they want to beat the Astros this evening.
Taking the above into account, I recommend backing an Astros victory. The Blue Jays are too inconsistent to trust, especially with Kikuchi playing his worst baseball of the year. Houston is more than talented enough to exploit the southpaw’s struggles en route to win No. 44.
Furthermore, you should take the Astros to cover the run line. Again, they’ve won eight of their last nine games following a loss, picking up each of those wins by at least two runs. Considering how the Blue Jays rank dead last with a 4-9 ATS record as the home underdog in 2024, the Astros should win this tilt by a decent margin.

Best Astros vs Blue Jays MLB Player Prop (7/3)
With how well he’s been playing, I can’t help but go with Jose Altuve o1.5 total bases (+100) for the top Astros vs. Blue Jays player prop tonight.
The former AL MVP has been electric since the middle of June. In his last nine games, Altuve is slashing .400/.429/.625 across 40 at-bats, racking up 16 hits, three doubles, and two homers along the way. He amassed 25 total bases during that stretch (2.8 per game), finishing with the Over on this prop seven times — including in both of the last two games.
Considering how the Over is 7-3 in his last 10 tilts against the Blue Jays, it’s best to expect another productive night from Altuve.
