Blue Jays vs Red Sox Predictions & MLB Picks Today (8/29)
After winning on Tuesday, the Red Sox extended their momentum with yesterday’s 3-0 shutout win over the Blue Jays. Boston RHP Brayan Bello struck out nine batters across eight scoreless innings while a two-run homer in the eighth inning from Tyler O’Neill clinched the victory for the home team.
The victory improved the Red Sox’s record over the Blue Jays to 5-3 SU this season. It’ll be interesting to see if the visitors can halt that trend. Toronto has a solid roster, however, tallying just three runs on 13 hits over the last two games just isn’t going to be good enough to beat a Boston club that boasts a top-10 offense in the Majors.
Time will tell if the Blue Jays can get any offense rolling against Red Sox RHP Kutter Crawford.
Although the 28-year-old was one of Boston’s best arms to begin the campaign, he’s since come back down to earth. In his last seven starts, Crawford is 2-4 with a putrid 8.13 ERA after allowing 31 earned runs and 14 homers in just 34 1/3 innings.
Red Sox RHP Kutter Crawford has been struggling on the mound.
It’s also worth pointing out that Crawford is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in five career meetings (4 starts) against Toronto.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re sending the red-hot Bowden Francis to the mound. The former 2017 seventh-rounder has won each of his last three starts, which includes holding opposing batters to a .070/.120/.169 slash line with 27 strikeouts across 22 innings. That’s without mentioning how he held two of those opponents to just one hit.
While the Red Sox have some solid batters, the offense appears as if it has stalled. Boston’s 20 runs since Aug. 23 are tied for the fifth-fewest in the Majors during that stretch and that trend could continue if they don’t solve Francis early on.
I can see this game going either way, but I also like the Blue Jays tonight. Toronto was racking up wins before this series and I can see the club getting back to that point based on Francis’ recent performances. The Red Sox will put up a fight, however, Crawford’s recent struggles make trusting the home team difficult.
With that in mind, Red Sox u4.5 total runs (-115) is the best team bet. It’s hard to ignore that the Under is 5-2 in the Red Sox’s last seven games — a span where they’re averaging 3.4 runs per contest. If that isn’t convincing enough, the Blue Jays have surrendered fewer than 4.5 runs in all but one of their last seven games.
Given that Francis isn’t showing any signs of regressing, I don’t see Boston’s bats being that productive this evening.

Best Blue Jays vs Red Sox MLB Player Prop (8/29)
Based on his recent impressive performances, backing Bowden Francis o5.5 total strikeouts (-110) is a no-brainer for the best Blue Jays vs. Red Sox prop.
Francis has been electric and his recent strikeout totals highlight that fact. The Tallahassee, FL native has finished with the Over on this prop in each of his last four starts, averaging 8.5 strikeouts per appearance. He struck out 12 Los Angeles Angels batters on Saturday, limiting them to just one hit across eight innings.
While the Red Sox have hit the ball well this season, their 207 strikeouts in the last 20 games rank second-most in the Majors during that stretch. In other words, unless he’s completely off his game tonight, Francis is in a great spot to finish with the Over again.
