After looking like World Series contenders to begin the 2024 campaign, the Dodgers have looked fairly human in recent weeks. With Wednesday’s loss, LA has now dropped to 3-6 SU across its last nine outings. Additionally, the club is on a three-game losing streak while being outscored 23-6 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are continuing to perform like one of the Majors’ best teams. Since June 22, Philadelphia’s 64.7% winning percentage ranks fourth-best in the MLB. Rob Thomson’s club also ranks 10th in runs, fourth in hits, and third in both stolen bases and on-base plus slugging percentage during that stretch.

The Phillies have also won four of their last five games, highlighting how unwelcoming Citizens Bank Park has been to visitors. The Dodgers learned that the hard way considering that they’re just 1-5 SU on their last six trips to the City of Brotherly Love.

The Phillies tend to play their best baseball whenever they’re at Citizens Bank Park. 

Time will tell if the Dodgers’ bats finally wake up against Phillies ace Aaron Nola. The seasoned right-handed hurler has been terrific this season, pitching to a 10-4 record and 3.48 ERA through his first 18 starts. Having said that, Nola struggled in his last three games against the Dodgers, tallying a 7.00 ERA after surrendering 14 earned runs across 18 innings.

As for LA, right-handed rookie pitcher Landon Knack is getting the start tonight. Although the former East Tennessee State product has pitched well for the most part this season, he’s coming off an underwhelming showing that saw him give up four earned runs and three homers across 4 1/3 innings in a 9-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 4.

But taking the above into account, I’m going with a Phillies win tonight.  The Dodgers just aren’t playing up to their ability at the moment, making it difficult to trust them on the road against the Phillies. Knack also hasn’t faced a lineup as gifted as Philadelphia’s yet, making it interesting to see just how he fares.

But no matter who wins, the Over on the 9-run total looks attractive. After all, the Over is 6-3 in Philadelphia’s last nine games and 14-3 in LA’s 17 previous National Leagues tilts.

Considering how the last 15 Dodgers-Phillies matchups saw an average of 11.6 total runs with the Over being 10-5, I expect a fair bit of offense this evening.
