Mets vs Yankees Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/24)
Even though the oddsmakers were against them, the Mets opened the second half of the Subway Series with a 3-2 win over the Yankees yesterday. It was fairly back and forth throughout the first part of the game until Jeff McNeil launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning that gave the Mets a lead that they never surrendered.
As a result, the Mets are in a position to sweep their season series with the Yankees, having outscored the latter 24-11 through the first three matchups. In fact, the Bronx Bombers have been limited to just two runs in each of the last two meetings.
Struggles at home aren’t exactly new for the Yankees, who’ve dropped to 4-12 SU in their last 16 games at Yankee Stadium. What’s concerning is that Aaron Boone’s club lost consecutive games seven times during that stretch.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 5-3 SU in their eight previous road games, which includes wins in three of the last four.
The Mets have done a terrific job on the road lately. Will that trend continue this evening?
The Mets are putting the potential sweep in the hands of RHP Sean Manaea. Not only does the former 2013 first-rounder have a better ERA on the road (3.10) than he does at home (4.33) this season, but he’s also 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA while limiting opponents to a .194/.282/.306 slash line in his last seven starts.
That’s without mentioning how Manaea already got the better of the Yankees earlier this season, striking out three batters across five scoreless innings in a 12-2 victory on June 26.
As for the Yankees, they’re hoping to see Gerrit Cole continue his recent positive trend. After a slow start to the year, the former AL Cy Younger winner has turned the page with a 2.95 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings in his last four starts.
Conversely, Cole is 0-1 with a 7.43 ERA in his last three games against the Mets and was torched by them to the tune of six earned runs and four HRs in four innings on June 25.
Will Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole get revenge for last month’s loss to the Mets?
After losing the first three games of the Subway Series, I’m taking the Yankees to salvage things with a win. Eventually, the Bronx Bombers will break out of their slump and I see that happening today if Cole has a strong showing on the mound. The Mets won’t go down easily, but the Yankees have what it takes to win.
Having said that, we’re taking the Under on the 8.5-run total. The Mets have been involved in some low-scoring affairs lately with their last four games averaging a combined 5.5 runs. Meanwhile, the Yankees 12 previous outings featured a 7.3-run average. Furthermore, the last six Mets-Yankees tilts in the Bronx averaged just 6.5 runs.
Assuming that Manaea and Cole both keep up their current play, the offense could be at a low tonight.

Best Mets vs Yankees MLB Player Prop (7/24)
With the way he’s been playing lately, I can’t help but back Gerrit Cole o6.5 strikeouts (-114) as tonight’s best Mets vs. Yankees player prop.
After a rough beginning to the year, Cole looks like his old self with 23 strikeouts across 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts. The two-time ERA leader finished each of those outings with at least seven Ks, which includes when he struck out eight Tampa Bay Rays batters in his last outing on July 19. The Over is also 7-2 in his last nine home games dating back to the 2023 MLB season.
Another reason to love this prop is that the Mets averaged 10.1 strikeouts in their previous seven games, finishing four of those outings with at least 11. In other words, Cole doesn’t have an excuse not to pull through on this prop again.
Best Mets vs. Yankees MLB Prop Bet: Gerrit Cole o6.5 Total Strikeouts (-114)
