After winning the AL Central with a 92-69 record, the Cleveland Guardians will face the rival Detroit Tigers in the ALDS. The lifelong foes collided 13 times during the 2024 MLB regular season, resulting in seven wins for Cleveland.
We’ll see how having a first-round bye affected the Guardians, who are 4-1 SU when having more rest than their opponent this season. Meanwhile, the Tigers will look to continue their momentum after sweeping the Houston Astros in the Wild Card Series — something a lot of baseball enthusiasts didn’t expect to see.
Having three of this series’ five games played at Progressive Field should help Cleveland, though. The Guardians own the second-best win percentage as the home favorite this season (67.2%) whereas the Tigers are only 31-32 SU (49.2%) as the road underdog in 2024.
The Guardians haven’t advanced beyond the ALDS since 2020 while it’s been 11 years since the Tigers have last done so, leaving time to tell which trend will end this month.

- Most likely final score: Yankees win 3-1 (+250)
- Series Over/Under: o3.5 Games (-275) | u3.5 Games (+215)
The Kansas City Royals were another of the Wild Card round’s more surprising clubs. Despite being the underdogs, the Royals sent the Baltimore Orioles packing in two games while holding them to a total of one run.
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees will return to action after winning the AL East, which led to them having a first-round bye. The Bronx Bombers missed out on last year’s postseason, meaning MLB enthusiasts are expecting big things from Aaron Judges & Co.
The good news for the AL East leaders is that they dominated the opposition during the regular season. The Yankees went 5-2 SU across seven matchups with the Royals, which included scoring 10 runs on three occasions.
If the Yankees’ bats succeed early in this series, the Royals may not hang around for long.

The New York Mets were one of the MLB’s hottest teams in the second half and that trend continued into the postseason. The Mets have now advanced to the NLDS after disposing of the Milwaukee Brewers in three hard-fought games.
As for the Philadelphia Phillies, they were on a first-round bye after winning the NL East for the first time since 2011. While it’s never wise to underestimate a division winner, it’ll be interesting to see which version of the Phillies shows up considering that they went 3-5 SU in their last eight games to end the regular season.
As NL East rivals, the Mets and Phillies have already squared off 13 times this year and it was the latter who won seven of those encounters. Interestingly enough, New York went 3-1 SU against Philadelphia during a four-game series about two weeks ago.
Still, the Phillies have two NLCS appearances and one World Series showing in the last two years. The Mets don’t have that experience, meaning they’ll have to dig down deep if they want to advance.

- Series Over/Under: o4.5 Games (-180) | u3.5 Games (+150)
The San Diego Padres arrive at the MLB Division Series after barely breaking a sweat in their sweep against the Atlanta Braves. The Padres were the better team on both sides of the mound as they outscored the Braves 9-4 on aggregate to advance.
The LA Dodgers, on the other hand, were the No. 1 team in baseball as they finished the regular season with an MLB-high 98 wins. With elite talent throughout the lineup, the Dodgers look to pick up from where they left off after having last week’s bye.
Even though it was the Dodgers who won the NL West, the Padres had their number more often than not. San Diego won eight of 13 matchups against Los Angeles, which includes a 4-2 SU record in six matchups since the beginning of July.
The Padres also eliminated the Dodgers in six games when they last collided during the 2022 NLDS, leaving time to tell if history will repeat itself in the coming days.
