Jared Cannonier is looking to snap his 2 fight losing skid against the rising prospect in Rodrigues. Rodrigues has been on a run of his own although. Cannonier , who is rounding the ripe age of 40 years old, may be coming to the end of his road in the fight game as it is ever so unforgiving. Riding a 3 fight winning streak, Rodrigues is looking to leapfrog Cannonier in the rankings with a win. After a shaky start to his UFC career, Rodrigues has made good work of his opportunities of late. He looks to build on the momentum of a dominating victory over English prospect Christian Leroy Duncan. Rodrigues loves to use his forward pressure and aggressive striking to push the pace of the fight. This aggressive style allows him to implement a supplementary heavy grappling pace. With relentless takedowns at times, and bar room brawls at others, Rodrigues has proven he has a will to win. The question of his durability has yet to be answered, being KO’d twice in his UFC tenure.

Cannonier has been on a downward spiral of late. The chin mostly coming into question , after being knocked down multiple times in all 3 of his previous match ups. It certainly seems the durability of Cannonier has taken a turn, which was one of his best attributes. The movement and striking have not seen to much of a fall off, adding more confusion to the trajectory of his career. A man that has seemingly beaten the age odds thus far, seems to be letting father time catch up to him.

With durability being in question for both fighters in the matchup, betters may want to look at the total of the fight rather a winner. Two things are for sure, these men are both willing to get into a brawl and if Rodrigues takes you down you may not get up.

Youssef Zalal vs Calvin Kattar Analysis

Youssef Zalal may be one of the UFC’s hottest prospects right now. After a rough first stint in the UFC going 3-3-1, he was released. Since, he has gone 8-0 in combat sports , 6-0 in mma, including his 3 fight win strike upon returning to the UFC. Finishing all but 1 of those bouts, it is clear Zalal has taken his game to another level. Refusing to leave his fights up to the judges as of late, he has racked up 3 submission victories in impressive fashion. The striking has also made clear improvements using it to set up his takedowns and aggresive grappling style. Another win over a tough as nails veteran in Kattar would throw Zalal’s hat squarely in title contention.

Kattar has been on a tough run as of late while on a 3 fight losing streak, with multiple injuries in between. With his last win coming in 2022, and the injury history it is hard to gage just where the 36 year old veteran is at in his game. Fighting out of New England Cartel a coveted gym in the New England area. They are known for creating and executing great gameplans for their fighters. Kattar is known for his tight boxing style and great movement in the octagon. Sporting his 72% takedown defense, in theory Kattar should be able to stifle the grappling threat of Zalal. There are many ways to initiate a grappling exchange though. With Kattars movement at this point in his career, I expect a younger fresher fighter in Zalal to overwhelm Kattar over the course of 15 minutes.

Featherweight – Jose Delgado vs Connor Mathews Analysis

Jose Delgado is a quick and talented striker who also seems very confident in his grappling abilities. He throws his punches in combination, using leg kicks and his movement to bait fighters. He seems a little to comfortable taking 3 punches to land 1 big one but it has not gotten him into trouble yet.

Looking to build on the momentum of his brutal Contender series KO victory he makes his UFC debut tomorrow night. He takes on another 2 time contender series veteran in Connor Mathews. After avenging his first loss on contender series and getting his UFC contract, he went on to lose his debut by KO. Over his 3 UFC fights one thing is clear about Mathews, his best attribute is his toughness. He is a bar room brawler that like to push you up against the cage wear you down and eventually slug it out. He is another guy that likes to take 3 punches to give 1 which makes this such an exciting matchup. Mathews has also shown flashes of his B.J.J game throughout his career with 5 submission wins.

This seems like a set up spot for Delgados debut, hardly do we ever see debuting fighters on the main card. Delgado is undoubtedly the better striker in the match up but I expect this to be a bar room brawl none the less. This fight has violence written all over it and with a plus money total, sign me up!

Strawweight – Ketlen Souza vs Angela Hill Analysis

Angela Hill is a tried and true veteran of the women’s MMA scene. With over 31 professional fights and a hall of fame worthy resume, her impact on the division is in no doubt. She’s had a late resurgence in her career winning 3 of her last 5 fights, even finishing 1 by submission.

1 of those wins coming over Denise Gomes, who in so many ways has similarities to her current opponent in Souza. She kept the pace on her with a flurry of volume striking mixed in with a few takedowns, she was able to secure the win. I expect her to bring the same type of game plan to this fight with Souza.

Souza is a Brazilian striker with huge power for the division. Coming in with a lot of momentum after her KO victory of Mexican Star Yazmin Jauregui. She will carry extra confidence into her matchup with the feisty veteran in Hill. She has shown to be low volume at times, but when she does throw she always is the fighter landing the more damaging shots. Souza has shown improvement in her grappling and is young enough to really make advancements in her game to be able to contend for a title. With Hill’s age starting to finally come into question, I expect the prospect to make the most of her shots tomorrow night. Hill’s durability has started to decline over her past few fights, and I think Souza is exactly the type of fighter that could take advantage of that.
