The main event of UFC Vegas 104 is sure to be a barn burner featuring a huge match up in the middleweight division. The rematch is set between Marvin Vettori and Roman Dolidze. With the middle weight title picture being somewhat of mystery at the moment , this fight could spring a contender forward.

Marvin Vettori has been a tried and true veteran in the UFC with 15 bouts in the promotion. Winning 9 of those and fighting for the title. Going 2-2 in his next 4 after the title fight, the prospect may have been to active, to soon in his early days in the UFC. Taking a vast amount of damage in the majority of his fights due to his poor head movement.

Its hard not to wonder if this 2 year lay off was actually beneficial to him in that way. Still only being 31 years old, the ideal prime for any fighter. I expect him to have made some improvements to his game on top of the much needed rest.

He has always been a great volume striker, with decent pocket boxing and good wrestling he has shown a rounded skillset. If he has made some improvements, and the chin holds up, I believe he could make this fight look easier then their first matchup.

Vettori’s Fight to Lose?

After dropping 2 straight fights, Dolidze himself has made a resurgence and ripped off 2 quality wins in a row. He picked up a finish in his last fight aswell. Landing a nasty body shot on Kevin Holland where he was unable to continue. Dolidze is now 11 fights into his UFC tenure and at the ripe age of 36 he is most likely a finished product as a fighter.

With a nasty BJJ game and heavy hands when striking he has finished 5 of his 8 UFC wins. The cardio has always proven to be an issue in his career. Fading late in most fights that do go long and barely making it to the finish line in his only 5 round fight.

Vettori has never been finished in his career and has vast 5 round experience, it is hard to trust the 36 year old minute winner in this spot knowing how fresh Vettori is coming into this fight.

In what is sure to be a violent matchup in the welterweight division, Elizeu Zaleski is looking to continue his momentum vs Chidi Njokuani. Looking to string together back to back wins. Zaleski has had a great UFC tenure racking up 11 wins to just 4 losses. With a fantastic resume and a never quit attitude , he has proven to be a durable bar room brawler that shines in chaos.

He has a significantly well rounded skillset , not being overly great in any particular skill but being good in most of them. Zaleski is sporting a career 68% on takedown defense. While averaging almost 1 takedown attempt per fight himself.

His striking skillset is just as solid landing almost 4.5 strikes per minute while only absorbing 3.4. Cardio has never been a problem for him and actually one of his best attributes, breaking fighters  by wearing them down later in fights.

Chidi Njokuani is a highly skilled kickboxer with 14 career knockouts. Being a massive body at welterweight he has found success there since moving down from 185. The weight cut has seemed to be tough though, even missing weight for this matchup by a few lbs.

There has been problems in the grappling department in his career, being finished by ground & pound 3 times. Durability and motivation has been a theme in his career, being finished in 8 of his 10 career losses. On the feet is where he does his best work, being a long rangy striker he likes to pick an opponent apart at range to land the big shot.

The small octagon of the apex could prove to be an issue for his fighting style. He is also coming into this fight riding a 2 fight winning streak him self, the clashes of momentum should lead to fireworks Saturday Night.

Kevin Vallejos vs Seung Woo Choi Analysis – Featherweight

Kevin Vallejos will be making his UFC debut Saturday night as he takes on the veteran in Seung Woo Choi. In his first real test, the contender series alum will be looking to prove he belongs at the UFC level. Being just 23 years young the future is bright for Vallejos who has made vast improvements from his first contender series loss.

Vallejos is a fast twitch striker that throws with speed and volume. The prospect does a great job mixing his attacks to head, body, legs. His takedown defense also seems improved from his first appearance. Jean Silva was able to take him down and control him to secure the win in that fight. With how sharp he is on the feet, I dont see how the aging Choi will be able to keep up in the pocket boxing exchanges.

Seung Woo Choi Choi lost 4 of his last 5 fights , coming into this fight on a really tough skid as of late.  Being finished in 3 of those losses. Freshly off a nasty KO loss to Steve Garcia, the chin remains to be a question in his career. Now being knocked out in brutal fashion 3 times in his tenure.

Choi established himself as a solid kickboxer through out his 10 fight UFC career otherwise. The grappling in his game has even shown flashes stacking up control time and take down attempts at times. His main problem has never been his offense, its always been the defense. The head movement and striking defense have been problematic throughout his career.

It certainly appears Choi is the sacrificial lamb in a tailormade match up to make the prospect in Vallejos, shine under the lights.
