The 24th race of the NASCAR Cup Series season will see a return to Richmond for the second and final time. Denny Hamlin won this race in the spring, so he will be looking for the season sweep.
The playoffs start in three weeks, and there are 15 drivers currently locked into the field of 16. With 15 different drivers winning at least one race, there is a good chance that a high level driver will miss out on the playoffs.
Richmond provides a great opportunity for a driver on the bubble to increase their chances at a playoff spot. Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Blaney will be two drivers to watch this weekend as they are currently fighting for the last spot in the grid.

NASCAR Cup Series at Richmond Best Bets
Martin Truex Jr. +500
Truex finds himself in a rare position. He is out of the playoffs currently, and he is without a win in 2022. He has 10 Top 10s, but only 3 Top 5s on the season.
One of Truex Jr.’s Top 5s came at this very track back in the spring. He placed 4th in a race that was won by his teammate, Denny Hamlin.
He has a very good opportunity to clinch a spot in the playoffs, but it will require a good qualifying run to get good track position. Richmond can be a tough place to pass, so it is critical to get up front and stay near the front of the pack throughout the race.
There is no clear cut favorite this weekend, so Truex Jr. has value. At +550, his determination, and perhaps even desperation, will play to his advantage at a track that he runs well on.
Denny Hamlin +600
Hamlin was the winner at richmond earlier this season, and it marked his best run of the season. He has struggled throughout the year to stay consistent, but on short tracks he has fared well.
Hamlin got his win at Pocono taken away, but he was able to rebound last weekend and finish 3rd in a race where he was penalized late on pit road. There were too many men over the pit wall, and he had to work his way through the field for a Top 5. He had the best car, but the penalty cost him a chance at victory.
Joe Gibbs Racing is expected to do well, with the top 4 drivers in the odds this week all running for Gibbs. Toyota as a manufacturer will also run well on the short track, so betting on Hamlin provides some safety and value at +600.
Ryan Blaney +1300
It is only a matter of time before Blaney is in victory lane again. He is 4th in the overall standings, but hasn’t even locked himself into the playoffs yet. A good run at Richmond is critical to stay in the race for that final Playoff spot.
One of his 11 Top 10s came at Richmond earlier this year. He finished in the 7th position and ran well throughout. Short tracks may not be his best places to race, but he has fared well this season finishing in the Top 5 in 3 out of the 4 short track races.
Blaney will also be a bit desperate. He is running out of time, and this week may be his best shot at securing his spot. Can he outrun the Toyotas at the front of the pack? If he can, your return will be plentiful.
