The Sixers’ road trip started on the wrong foot on Wednesday as they fell 115-102 to the Phoenix Suns, marking the sixth loss in their last nine games. Meanwhile, the Lakers opened the week with a huge 136-105 blowout win over the Atlanta Hawks as LeBron James (25 PTS, 10 AST), Anthony Davis (22 PTS, 15 REB), and D’Angelo Russell (27 PTS, 10 AST) each recorded a double-double.

76ers vs Lakers Prediction & NBA Picks Today (3/22): More Road Woes for Philly

After getting blown out by the 76ers in their first matchup of the season in November, the Lakers are hoping for a more positive outcome tonight. Los Angeles fell 138-94 to Philadelphia that night as Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid combined for 61 points, 19 assists, and 14 rebounds.

Not only did the blowout defeat hurt, but it also marked the Lakers’ seventh consecutive loss to the 76ers. They have beaten the Sixers since March 3, 2020, losing the last seven meetings in a row by an average of 12.6 points per game.

Having said that, the makings are right for Los Angeles to end that trend tonight. For starters, the 76ers will be without Joel Embiid, who’s been out of the lineup since Jan. 30 with a knee injury. Additionally, Robert Covington (knee), De’Anthony Melton (back), and Kai Jones (hamstring) have also been ruled out while Tobias Harris (ankle) is questionable.

The Lakers aren’t exactly injury-free either. Christian Wood (knee), Gabe Vincent (knee), and Jarred Vanderbilt (foot) are expected to miss the rest of the season. LeBron James (ankle) is questionable while Anthony Davis (Achilles) carries a ‘probable’ tag.

Even though he’s questionable, I don’t see LeBron missing tonight’s contest. The four-time NBA MVP has been dealing with his ankle issue for the last few games but has still managed to suit up in 11 of the last 12 games, averaging 28.3 PTS/7.3 REB/9.5 AST during that stretch.

The Lakers will also receive a boost in the form of Cam Reddish, who’s playing his first game since March 8.

It’s also hard to like the 76ers when they’re struggling to win on the road. Nick Nurse’s team has lost three consecutive road games, averaging just 95.3 points on .433/.362/.583 shooting splits while losing by 16.3 PPG.

On the flip side, the Lakers are 10-4 SU across their last 14 home, which includes victories over legitimate contenders like the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers have been on an impressive run at crypto.com Arena lately. 

There’s nothing about the 76ers’ recent play that suggests an upset is incoming, so take the Lakers to win. LeBron & Co. have been putting up results lately — especially at home — and I see the Lakers’ superstar duo being too much for the shorthanded 76ers to handle.

I’m also willing to back Los Angeles on the spread. Again, the 76ers have lost three road games in a row by an average of 16.3 points and just lost to the Suns by 13. Meanwhile, the Lakers just beat the Hawks by 31 and are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games on a Friday.

In other words, don’t be surprised if the home team wins by three or more possessions.

After looking through the various 76ers vs. Lakers player props, I’m siding with the Over on LeBron James’ 8.5-assist total.

It’s no secret that LeBron is one of the NBA’s best passers and he’s been putting those playmaking skills on display lately. He’s averaging 9.5 assists across his last 11 games, finishing with the Over on this prop 10 times. Hell, he’s made good on this prop in each of his last five outings while averaging 10.0 APG during that stretch.

With the Over also being 3-1 in his last four home games against the 76ers, I feel confident that “King James” is about to have another big playmaking night.
