HAPPY, NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND.
It feels like the season just started, but here we are, post trade deadline and at the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. With the amount of criticism the weekend’s incurred over the last few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t share my level of excitement. With the league making changes to the actual All-Star Game and with big names still dodging the Dunk Contest; one thing has remained constant, the 3-Point Contest.
The NBA’s 3-point Contest is always fun. You get a chance to see some of the best shooters in the game go head to head in a pure shooting contest. This year’s field of shooters is stacked and I couldn’t be more excited about the competition.
NBA All-Star Weekend | 3-Point Contest

Shooters Shoot
The NBA’s 3-Point Contest was introduced to All-Star Weekend in 1986, Larry Bird would be the 1st ever winner of the 3-Point Contest, going on to win again in 1987 and 1988. Going into this year’s contest, 45 different players have won the 3-Point Contest, with 6 players that have lifted the trophy twice, and just TWO players to do it three times.
Over the last few years, we’ve seen some of the game’s best shooters take home hardware; Damian Lillard’s now won it back to back, once with the Blazers and one with the Bucks. Buddy Hield represents another past winner, winning the 3-Point Contest back in 2020 and is the only other former winner in today’s field of play.
Tonight, Dame looks to become just the THIRD player, to win the THREE-Point Contest, THREE times; also becoming the THIRD player to THREE-peat while doing it.
I’ve got two guys I put a little half unit on, let’ jump right into my best bets in this year’s 3-Point Contest.

Norman Powell (+500)

Stormin’ Norman
Norman Powell, arguably should have been an All-Star this year. He’s one of the front-runners for this year’s Most Improved Player Award and he’s putting up career-high numbers across the board.
Powell leads the Clippers in scoring this year, averaging 24.2 PPG on shooting splits of 50/43/82 (FG/3P/FT). Norm ranks 2nd in 3-point percentage this year, among players averaging 7 or more 3P attempts per game.
In the month of February, Norman’s averaging 25.4 PPG despite his 3-point percentage dropping to 37%. Tonight mark’s Powell’s debut in the NBA’s 3-Point Contest and he’s coming into this game fresh off a season-high 41 points.
Powell’s a dependable 3-point shooter with the ability to get his own shot off; huge in this competition. A lot of the game’s best 3-point shooters are ‘catch and shoot’ guys. The 3-Point Contest presents a different challenge, grab each ball off the rack find your rhythm.
This feels like a spot Powell could thrive, especially with the added heat of the All-Star snub.

Buddy Hield (+450)

Outside of Damian Lillard and Jalen Brunson, the only other guy to participate in the NBA’s 3-Point Contest prior to today, is Buddy Hield. Hield’s won this contest before, back in his days with the Sacremento Kings (2020).
Hield’s participated in this contest 3 times before, winning in 2020 but losing in both 2019 and 2023. Buddy would reach the final round in both year, losing to Damian Lillard in 2023 by just 1 3-pointer.
In the 3 prior contests, Hield’s recorded 23 or more made 3-pointers in 4 of the 6 rounds he participated in.
Today’s he’s playing in the Warriors’ home stadium, surrounded by fans with a chance to spoil Damian Lillard’s potential 3-peat.
