Cavaliers vs. Clippers | Analysis

Top Dogs
Cleveland rolls into tonight’s game as the best team in the Association. They’ve won 56 of their 67 games so far this year, they’ve got the #1 offense in the league and a top-10 defense to boot. Head Coach Kenny Atkinson has done a great job with this Cavaliers squad and it’s evident the players love him.
The Cavaliers are 18-3 this year against the Western Conference, 7-2 in the 9-road games and averaging 125.9 PPG in these 9-games. In their 21-games against the West, the Cavs have averaged an astounding 128.0 PPG, shooting 50% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc.
Tonight’s game marks the 1st of a 5-game road trip and with the 1st overall seed still up for grabs, I expect the Cavaliers keep their foot on the gas.
The Intuit Mafia
The Clippers officially got their own home this off-season and it looks like the fans are loving it. The new stadium’s not only state of the art with all the bells and whistle; but it’s got something we’ve never seen before, The Wall.
The Wall is section of seat, exclusively for Clipper fans, in the stadium that the Clippers describe as: “51 uninterrupted rows of passionate Clippers fans…”
It not only provide an exclusive experience for the fans; but acts as a strategic advantage during key moments like late game free throws. Fans in the section have been as loud as ever and even opponents like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have spoken to how much it really works.
The Clippers defense has always been good, but we see a significant jump at home. The team ranks 9th in defensive rating on the road, but 2nd when in the Intuit Dome. Teams are shooting worse than their season average at the free throw line, from the field and even from beyond the arc.
The team’s 23-10 at home this year but just 10-15 on the road, whatever it is they did; it’s working.

Kawhi Leonard o21.5 Points (-115) via BetOnline

The Klaw is back and he’s playing full minutes again Over his L10 games, Kawhi’s averaging 35.6 MPG, 23.1 PPG and he’s taking just under 20 shot attempts per game. He’s cleared this line just 5 times over his L10 games, but he’s 23+ in 3 straight games now.
In this 10-game span, Kawhi’s shooting 47% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. In his singluar matchup with the Cavaliers last year, Kawhi scored 30 points on 52% from the field and took 25 shots in that game.
The Clippers are coming off a blowout win over the Hornets, Kawhi played just 26 minutes and scored 23 points. Most of the team sat in the 4th quarter with the game already in hand and they’ve had a day in between to rest.
Leonard’s shown flashes at times this year, showing all of us he’s still that same guy who won TWO Championships, TWO Finals MVP Awards with TWO different franchises.
Kawhi Leonard o21.5 Points (-115)
Darius Garland o19.5 Points (-109) via BetOnline

Garland’s been super up and down this year, clearing this line in just 4 of his L10 games and averaging 17.18 PPG in that timeframe. Tonight he’s got a matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers and their third scoring option (Evan Mobley) may miss his 2nd straight game.
Mobley sat out the Cavaliers last game with a foot contusion, making it just his 8th missed game of the season. In these 8-games, however; Darius Garland is averaging 23.5 PPG on shooting splits of 43/45/80. He’s cleared this line in 5 of the 8 games, taking an average of 18.4 shots per game.
Last year, in his solo matchup with the Clippers, Garland finished with 28 points on splits of 45/50/80; with that game coming in Los Angeles as well.
If the Cavaliers hope to steal a win tonight at the Intuit Dome, they’ll need their #2 to play like it. .
