Tom Thibodeau’s squad is on the second last game of their West Conference road trip. It has been no vacation. They lost both games to the Los Angeles teams. Fortunately, they did escape California with a victory. The Knicks went into Golden 1 Center and finally had some fun snapping a three game losing streak. Without their star, Jalen Brunson, New York had six players score in double figures as they cruised to a 133-104 victory. They are currently the East’s third seed and will close out their trip Saturday against Golden State.

They continue to be Pesky Portland, however, they are on a four game losing streak. Three of those four games were on the road. The NBA season is long and now is when the pretenders will be separated from the contenders and playoff bound. The Trail Blazers are 12th in the West and are in danger of falling out of play-in contention. Chauncey Billups needs to tinker and find a way to refocus his very young team.

NBA Game Analysis

The Knicks will be without their star guard once again. They overcame his absence by committee against the Sacramento Kings. They’ll need this to continue today against a home team that hopes to snap their losing streak. Former Trail Blazer, Josh Hart needs to bring his signature energy. Portland is not a very good defensive team but they do have defensive playmakers. They are 8th in defensive turnover %. The Knicks path to victory is to let their offence shine. They are 5th in true shooting % and Portland is 23rd in opponent true shooting percentage.

Portland also is 4th in 2nd chance points per game. They rely on these points. Tom Thibodeau’s Knicks are 3rd in opponent second chance points. They can likely nullify one of the biggest reasons Portland is so pesky every night.

This is a team in the truest sense of the word. They have no clear cut leader and the starting lineup is always subject to change. Furthermore, they’re a completely different team home vs. away. They are 16-15 inside of Moda Center despite being 10 games under .500 overall. The Trail Blazers are 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 games at home. Portland is also 7-2 straight up in their last 9 games at home. It should also be noted that the under hit in 4 of the Portland Trail Blazers last 5 games at home. They do have the ability to tighten the screws and go score for score in the fourth at home.

Anfernee Simons is averaging 28.5 ppg in the month of march. The young combo guard has been great and he should continue to play well as he is a very streaky player. The Knicks are 29th in 3-point % allowed. Simons does most of his damage from beyond the arc so this is a good matchup for him. He’s hit this line in 7 of his last 10 and I’m going with the hot hand.
