Magic vs Knicks NBA Cup Predictions & Picks (12/3)
Tonight’s NBA Cup matchup is between a pair of Eastern Conference teams that have been building plenty of momentum lately.
The Magic are heading into Madison Square Garden on a six-game win streak, most recently notching a 100-92 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. After a 3-5 start to the year, they’re now 12-1 SU across their last 13 games. Most of Orlando’s recent success comes from an elevated defensive effort as Jamahl Mosley’s team has held 10 of its last 13 opponents to 100 or fewer points.
As for the Knicks, they improved to 7-2 SU across their last nine outings with Sunday’s 118-85 victory against the New Orleans Pelicans. New York didn’t trail for a second outside of the first quarter as Mikael Bridges led the way with his team-high 31 points while Karl-Anthony Towns dominated the paint with a 19-rebound performance.
The Knicks are back at Madison Square Garden again tonight, where they’ve 4-0 SU with a plus-18.3 average scoring margin in their last four home games. Conversely, the Magic have also one each of their last four road games, outscoring those foes by an average of 10.8 PPG.
The Magic have been playing well on the road recently. Will that trend continue with a visit to the Big Apple?
When it comes to the recent history between these franchises, the latest battles have favored Orlando more often than not. The Magic are 4-1 SU across their last five meetings with the Knicks, which includes holding the latter to 108 or fewer points in each victory. Having said that, New York emerged victorious in the last battle at MSG, picking up a 98-74 home win back on March 8.
That showdown was a low-scoring affair and it wouldn’t be shocking if the same thing happened tonight.
As mentioned before, these are two of the NBA’s best teams when it comes to defense.
The Magic are allowing the fewest points in the league this season while the Knicks rank 11th and are continuing to rise with each passing performance. Nevertheless, Orlando is better at limiting the opposition’s success, surrendering the seventh-lowest field-goal percentage and 16th-worst three-point percentage whereas New York sits 19th and 22nd, respectively.
Will the Knicks be able to match the Magic’s defensive play tonight?
Even though they’re the underdogs, I’m taking the Magic to win a close game. The Knicks are good, don’t get me wrong, but they’re also inconsistent and their defense isn’t on the same level as the visitors. I expect Orlando to get a small lead before going into full lockdown mode and grinding out yet another win.
Let’s also take the Under on the 215-point total considering how it’s 8-1 in the last nine Magic vs. Knicks matchups. Additionally, the last three of those encounters only saw an average of 194 combined points scored. With the way both sides have been playing defensively lately, I don’t think we’ll see much offense tonight.

Best Magic vs Knicks NBA Player Prop (12/3)
Even though he dominated the glass a few nights ago, I’m going with Karl-Anthony Towns u11.5 rebounds (-124) for this evening’s best Magic vs. Knicks player prop bet.
Towns has been having terrific rebound success this season, however, I see that coming to a brief stop tonight. The Magic are one of the NBA’s top squads when it comes to limiting rebounds, allowing the fourth-fewest boards this season. In fact, they’ve held their last three opponents to an average of 42.3 RPG and limited the Nets to just 33 rebounds on Sunday.
The 11.9 RPG Orlando gives up to centers is also the league’s lowest mark.
Considering how he failed to reach the double-digit rebounding mark in each of his last three meetings with the Magic, I’m expecting a smaller rebound total for Towns tonight.
Best Magic vs. Knicks Player Prop: Karl-Anthony Towns u11.5 Total Rebounds (-124)
