Mavericks vs Nuggets NBA Cup Predictions & Picks (11/22)
It’s been nearly two weeks since these Western Conference foes clashed for the first time this season. It was a back-and-forth collision at Ball Arena as the Nuggets picked up a 122-120 victory over the Mavericks, led by Nikola Jokic’s monstrous triple-double performance (37 points, 18 rebounds, 15 assists). Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 67 points on 63.4% shooting but it wasn’t good enough as Michael Porter Jr. scored with seven seconds remaining to give Denver the victory.
Unfortunately, for the Mavericks, tonight’s tilt will also be played in the Mile High City. The Mavs have struggled in their recent visits to Ball Arena, dropping four of their last five road games against the Nuggets, who are a solid 5-2 SU/3-3-1 ATS at home to open the campaign.
Speaking of which, the Nuggets will return home tonight after going 1-2 SU across a brief three-game road trip. Denver’s venture began with back-to-back losses, however, it managed to somewhat salvage the trip with Tuesday’s 122-110 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Returning to Ball Arena should give the Nuggets a major boost considering that they’re currently only a five-game win streak at home, outscoring those opponents by an average of 9.0 points per game.
The Nuggets haven’t lost at Ball Arena since Oct. 26, going 5-0 SU across their last five home games.
Even though they haven’t found much recent success in Denver, the Mavericks will head into this NBA Cup matchup with some momentum. They’re coming off Tuesday’s 132-91 blowout win against the New Orleans Pelicans, which marked their third consecutive victory — their longest winning streak of the 2024-25 season.
Nevertheless, extending that run will be tough now that Doncic is ruled out of tonight’s game with a wrist injury. The Slovenia superstar was averaging 28.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists before suffering his injury, so it’s easy to see why the Mavericks will miss his presence.
It’s also worth noting that Dallas is only 19-31 SU (38.0%) in the last 50 games that Doncic has missed since the start of the 2020-21 season.
As for the Nuggets, they’ll still be without Aaron Gordon (calf) and Vlatko Cancar (knee) while Jokic (personal) is expected to be a game-time decision. Denver head coach Mike Malone said that three-time NBA MVP is currently dealing with a family issue and more about his status will be revealed during the day on Friday.
There’s a possibility that tonight’s game won’t feature both Luka Doncic (wrist, OUT) or Nikola Jokic (personal, QUESTIONABLE).
In what could be a close-fought matchup, I see the Nuggets winning this NBA Emirates Cup group stage encounter. The Mavericks are struggling to win in Denver and ending that drought will be even tougher without Doncic in the lineup. Assuming that Jokic does end up playing, the Nuggets shouldn’t have too hard of a time keeping the visitors at bay.
For the best bet, though, I’m taking the Over on the 225.5-point total. For starters, the Over is 4-2 in the Mavericks’ last six games as well as 8-2 in the Nuggets’ 10 previous outings. That’s without bringing up how the Over is also 5-2 at Ball Arena this season.
The Mavericks and Nuggets have also exceeded 228 points in four of their last six clashes, averaging a combined 230.8 points along the way. After combining for 242 points a few weeks ago, I’m predicting a considerable amount of offense in Denver tonight.

Best Mavericks vs Nuggets NBA Cup Player Prop (11/22)
With Doncic sidelined, I’m taking Kyrie Irving o26.5 points (-114) for this evening’s best Mavericks vs. Nuggets NBA Cup player prop bet.
Even though Irving has gone four straight games without hitting the Over on this prop, I see his luck changing tonight. For starters, the Over is respectable 2-2 in his last four road games as he averaged 30.5 PPG on .618/.640/.800 shooting splits during that stretch. The Over is also 7-3 in the veteran guard’s last 10 encounters with the Nuggets, including when he dropped 43 points at Ball Arena on Nov. 10.
Additionally, Irving is averaging 30.4 PPG on 49.5% shooting in his last 12 games without Doncic, finishing with 27-plus points six times along the way.
With the Mavericks needing his help to defeat the Nuggets on the road, look for Irving to lead by example tonight.
Best Mavericks vs. Nuggets Player Prop: Kyrie Irving o26.5 Total Points (-114)
