If there was concern about how the Oklahoma City Thunder would handle being the top seed in the Western Conference in their first postseason run as a unit, those concerns should have been resoundingly put to bed in their first five games against the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks.

After dispatching the Pelicans in a four-game sweep, the Thunder opened their Western Conference semifinal matchup with the Mavericks with a 117-95 win on Tuesday.

Tonight, they will look to take a 2-0 lead into Saturday’s Game 3 in Dallas (3:30 pm ET, ABC) with a Game 2 win at the Paycom Center (9:30 pm ET, ESPN).

If the Mavericks are to head back home with a 1-1 tie, they will have to overcome a pretty formidable record.

For the season, the Thunder are 33-5 SU (86.8%, 2^nd in the NBA) and 25-13 ATS (65.8%, 4^th in the NBA) as a home favorite. Also, Oklahoma City is 44-17 SU (72.1%, 2^nd in the NBA) and 37-24 ATS (60.7%, 3^rd in the NBA) in games following a win.

Dallas does have a solid record in games following a loss, going 21-13 SU (61.8%, 10^th in the NBA) and posting the same record ATS, which is fourth in the league.

However, the Mavericks are just 6-14 SU (30.0%, tied for 18^th in the NBA) and 9-11 ATS (45.0%, 21^st in the NBA) as a road underdog.

While Dallas does deserve some credit for their responses in the first round against the Clippers, the Thunder, much like the Timberwolves, are playing with a confidence that makes them a scary, scary team. And like Minnesota did in Game 2 in Denver after downing the Nuggets in Game 1, I expect Oklahoma City to come out and make a statement against the Mavericks tonight.

Neither Doncic nor Williams shot well in Game 1, with Doncic going 6 of 19 from the field and Williams going 6 of 15 from the field. I expect better efforts and more scoring from both tonight. It’s worth noting that Williams has shot below 50% in consecutive games only four times all season, so after making only 40% of his shots, he is highly likely to see most of his shots fall tonight.
