Prediction and Best Bet
As I said above, any of these Shooters really do have a legitimate chance to challenge for the crown.
Last year, Timberwolves Center Karl Anthony-Towns became the first Center EVER to win the 3 point contest, highlighting the versatility of big men in today’s NBA.
There are 2 Big Men in the competition this year, with PF Julius Randle and 7 footer Lauri Markkanen trying to follow in KAT’s large footsteps.
I think both men have a legit chance to do so (More on that in a bit ;)) but for me, the value lies with one of the best sharp shooters this season, the favorite Buddy Hield.
Hield has been absolutely sensational all season from behind the arc. He has the most 3 pointers in the NBA this season, the only player in the 200’s, with 230.
His 3 point percentage is also the 2nd highest in the league at 42.6% only 0.1% behind Steph.
Give me Hield to make a Splash on the big stage. Placing a small bet on Hield to win at +420 makes sense for a bit of fun, but the value lies with Hield to make the final.
3 of the 8 shooters will qualify for the final round and given Hield’s shooting ability, this is a no brainer.
Best Bet
Buddy Hield to qualify for the Final (-125)
Underdog Pick
For the value, this is my favorite pick of the competition.
As I said earlier, last season we saw KAT become one of the tallest players to win the 3 point contest and the First EVER Center. The only 7 footer to win the 3 point contest was Dirk Nowitzki in 2006.
Well, what if I told you a Big Men could win 2 years in a row and he is a 7 footer??
The FINNISHER, Lauri Markkanen.
One of my favorite players to watch this season has been Lauri, for many reasons. But mostly because of his shooting stroke from deep.
Markkanen made 164 3 pointers so far this season and has shot an awesome 41.2% from deep, good for 3rd best in the league.
When the big man gets hot from behind the arc, he can stroke it and this competition is about getting in rhythm and knocking them down.
One last nugget…the All-Star festivities are taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah at Vivint Arena.
And it just so happens that Lauri Markkanen plays for… the Utah Jazz 😉
For the value of +650 to win, I love Markkanen for a little sprinkle to win outright in his home gym!
But my favorite play on the Finnisher is for him to qualify for the finals for nice plus money value.
Best Underdog Bet
Lauri Markkanen to Advance to the Final Round (+150)
