The Minnesota Timberwolves hope to put the Phoenix Suns in a 2-0 hole when the teams collide for Game 2 of their first-round NBA playoff series on Tuesday, April 23.

The Timberwolves opened the series with a lopsided 120-95 victory over the Suns on Saturday. Anthony Edwards stole the show with his game-high 33 points while Rudy Gobert recorded a double-double (14 points, 16 rebounds) in his 2023-24 postseason debut.
Can Phoenix tie up the series before returning to Footprint Center? Or will Minnesota take the crucial 2-0 series lead?

Suns vs Timberwolves Game 2 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (4/23)
There were a handful of reasons as to why the Suns were blown out in Game 1. For starters, Phoenix was completely inefficient with its offensive opportunities, only shooting 44.0% from the floor and 32.1% from the three-point line. For comparison, Minnesota shot 50.0% and 37.5%, respectively.
When it came to the Suns’ ‘Big 3’, Kevin Durant was the only one who showed up with a 31-point effort. Devin Booker only scored 18 points on 31.3% shooting while Bradley Beal was capped off at 15 points.
The Timberwolves, meanwhile, demonstrated a balanced attack as five of their players scored between 12 and 33 points. They even received production from bench players as Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Naz Reid combined for 30 points.
Devin Booker needs to have a better offensive showing in Game 2.
Another area where the Suns struggled was in the paint. Phoenix was completely outmuscled by the opposition as Minnesota won the rebounding battle 52-28 in Game 1, which included a 13-3 advantage in offensive boards.
The T-wolves’ impressive performance down low resulted in their outscoring the Suns 52-34 in the paint. If Phoenix wants to avoid another one-sided loss, that’s an area where it must be better.
Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see if the Game 1 result was a fluke or not. Even though the Timberwolves were the better team on Saturday, it was only their second victory in the last 12 meetings with the Suns. It’s worth noting that two of those losses came in Phoenix’s last three trips to Target Center, though.
It’s worth noting that the Suns are also 8-8 SU/9-7 ATS as road underdogs this season whereas the Timberwolves are 28-10 SU/15-21-2 ATS as home favorites this season.
The Timberwolves tend to struggle to cover the spread when they’re the home favorites.
I think the Suns will have a better effort than they did in Game 1, but the Timberwolves will still win tonight. Minnesota was the much better team in the series opener and holds a distinct advantage in the paint. If the Suns’ ‘Big 3’ struggles to produce, the Timberwolves will make them pay.
But regardless of who wins, I expect the Over on the 211.5-point total to be hit. These teams aren’t strangers to high-scoring tilts as the Over is 4-1 in Phoenix’s last five road games and 5-1 in Minnesota’s six previous outings.
Additionally, the Over is 5-2 in the last seven Suns-Timberwolves matchups with three of the last four finishing with more than 211.5 points. After a combined 215 points were scored in Game 1, I expect tonight’s projected total to be surpassed.

After the Suns struggled to produce in the paint in Game 1, we’re going with the Over on Rudy Gobert’s 12.5-rebound total (-126) tonight.
After Saturday’s dominant showing, Gobert is now averaging 13.8 rebounds in his last nine games. Not only did he finish seven of those outings with the Over, but he’s also tallied at least 15 boards in five of his last six games. Considering how the Suns didn’t have an answer for him over the weekend, I fully expect Gobert to continue reigning supreme on the glass.
