It’s the night of Game 3 and I currently can’t sleep. The Boston Celtics are up 3-0 on the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals and the insomnia may not end till the clock reads 0:00 on Friday.
With nothing else to do, I started looking at lines and there’s one that stuck out to me. Vegas currently has Jaylen Brown to win the Finals MVP Award at (-340), deservedly so.
I think it’s clear after the first 3 games of this series, that JB has been the Most Valuable Player, but the price tage does seem a tad steep to me. With that being said, let me tell you where I’m putting my coin for Finals MVP.

JT’s 25.8 points per game and 5.9 assists during the post-season and he’s been doing everything for his team, but most of all he’s been making the right play.
He’s averaging just 22 points per game in the finals but adding 9 rebounds and 7 assists per contest, through 3 games. JT failed to score 20 in both Games 1 & 2 but finally had that scoring explosion we knew he was due for.
Tatum took 16 shots in Game 1 and then 22 in Game 2. The Mavericks remain without a real matchup for Tatum and after what we saw tonight, I think it’s clear they really don’t have an answer for the Jays.
He finished Game 3 with 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists; he currently leads both teams in rebounds/assists and he leads the entire league in season +/-. He’s been drawing the toughest defensive matchups and the most attention on that side of the floor, one big game in Game 4 and this is within reach.
The Mavericks made a concentrated effort in trying to stop Tatum in Game 1, blitzing him with double teams and triple teams any chance they got.
In Game 2 & 3 the Mavericks threw fewer doubles at Tatum and we’ve seen it directly result in a higher volume for JT. He’s played 697 of the Celtics 821 minutes this post-season and he’s played 42 or more minutes in every game of this series.
They need him out there and we just need one or maybe even two big games from Tatum and this (+270) is within ear shot. I love this play and it’s the reason I’m getting my thoughts out to you at 2:46 a.m. on a Thursday morning.
It’s strictly a value play at the (+270) so we’re not hammering this, but it’s value we can’t ignore. He’s one win from his first NBA Title, and we know how much the media is influenced by recency bias.
It’s all about, what have you done for me recently, so back to back 30 point games and a sweep of the Mavericks might be just enough.

You may know me as ‘VSaaauce’. I’ve been a die hard hoops fan my entire life. I’ve been betting on the NBA/NCAAB/NFL/MLB for six years now, each year gaining more and more knowledge about being a profitable handicapper. I’m eager to learn, and eager to pass on everything I’ve gained over the last few years. I started my Twitter page four years ago, and this community makes me so thankful I did. Outside of sports and handicapping, I enjoy traveling, hoopin, a strong espresso and I’m currently studying to obtain my MD. I’m all about the vibes, good vibes only.
