Thunder vs. Celtics | Analysis

Captain Canada
Oklahoma City rolls into tonight’s game as the best team in the Association. Lead by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder have won 53 of their 65 games so far this year; they’ve got the #1 defense in the league and remain top-5 in almost all offensive categories.
Shai remains the favorite to win this year’s Most Valuable Player and not for no reason. He leads the league in points, averaging 32.7 PPG but he’s also added more to his game this year; additionally averaging 5.1 RPG and 6.2 APG.
The Thunder are on pace for possibly the best season in franchise (Oklahoma City) history, potentially surpassing the 60-win season of the 2012/13 squad.
Tonight the Thunder will be without one of their young stars, Jalen Williams. Williams has come alive this year, averaging career-highs across the board; 21.3 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 5.3 APG. He’s played all positions for this team at different times and without him tonight, the Thunder will look to Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein to pick up the slack.
Despite their injuries, they still have their superstar, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Shai’s proven he’s one of the best in the league, but if you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.
Zero Dark Green
With less than 20-games left on every team’s schedule, it’s time to lock in. The post-season’s right around the corner and this is when the best of the best come out play. The Celtics are 12-3 over their L15 games, they rank 4th 3-point percentage and 1st in points allowed during that timeframe.
The Celtics have held their opponents to just 45% (6th) from the field in those games and 33% (4th) from beyond the arc. During this 15-game span, we’ve seen the Jays combine for 70+ points TWICE, we’ve seen White/Pritchard record the first ever 40/40 game and we’ve seen Jayson Tatum average 29/9/7.
They’ve done all this, including a (47-18) record with their starters playing just 20-games together this year.
Boston looks ready for the post-season and they look ready to defend their title.

Boston Celtics -2.5 (-110)

Like I said above, the Celtics are ready for the post-season. Tonight’s matchup marks a big game, a potential NBA Finals Preview. The Thunder got the best of the Celtics earlier this year in Oklahoma City, but I’m confident the Celtics will return the favour tonight.
The Celtics are 12-7 against the Western Conference but have stood their ground against the top teams in the league. Boston’s now won 5-games in a row, looking to make it 6 before heading on the road to Miami. They’ve covered the 2.5-points in 8 of their L10 games and 15 of their L20.
The C’s average 118 PPG at home this year shooting 47% from the field and just under 38% from beyond the arc.
Our good friends over at BetAlytics have the Celtics ranked as a 5-star play tonight, with a projected score of 116.5-110.7 for the Celtics.
With the Thunder winning the previous meeting in such a convincing manner, it’s tough for me to believe the Celtics won’t come out just a little bit angry.
Boston Celtics -2.5 (-110)
Derrick White o14.5 Points (-110)

Derrick White went through one of the toughest stretches we’ve ever seen him experience, since he put on the green and white. During that stretch, the Celtics played the Oklahoma City Thunder, lost by double digits and White scored just 11 points and shot 30% from the field.
One could make the argument that his poor play, played a huge role in the Celtics loss the last time these teams met.
However, White has been HOOPIN’ in his L10 games; averaging 18.9 PPG on shooting splits of 47/44/95. He’s hit this points line in 8 of the 10 games and even cleared this in 15 of his L20 (17.6 PPG).
If the Celtics hope to win against good team, they’ll need everyone to be at their best; especiallly Mr. Big Shot, Derrick White.
