We’re not even a week into the 2024/25 NBA Season and we’ve already had some big games and some wild finishes. Today we’ve got 10 games on the slate, with 10 teams playing in their first back to back of the season.

With so many games we get an ever bigger number of props, so let’s dive into our favourites on this Saturday Slate.

Paolo Banchero has looked fantastic to start the season. He’s averaging 24 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6 assists per game, through just two games. Last night he recorded just 15 points against the Brooklyn Nets, taking just 13 shots in 37 minutes and shooting 31%.

Banchero took a different approach to their game with the Nets, he recorded a team-high 9 assists on 14 potential, and lead the Magic with 57 passes made. Tonight, against the Grizzlies, I’ve got a hunch he comes out looking to score.

Both teams entire tonight on the 2nd leg of a back to back, with both teams traveling to Memphis after their games last night. Last season, on the 2nd night of a back to back, Banchero shot 46% fro the field 44% from 3 (5.1 3PA).

He averaged 23.4 points per game in these back to backs, just slightly higher than his regular season average (22.6).

Young Guns

Banchero’s played against Morant just once in his young career, scoring 30 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in his rookie year. Both guys play different positions, but both guys are set up to be the future of their respective franchises.

The Nets won just 32 games last year and each one was a struggle. Last night felt like a look-ahead spot for the Magic, and it felt like their focus was on tonight’s game, in Memphis.

Through two games, the Grizzlies are allowing 126 points per game, allowing opponents to shoot 39% from 3, and giving up a league leading 40.5 free throw attempts per game.

Two games into the year, Paolo’s taken 40% of the teams free throw attempts; it’s no accident either, last year he finished the season taking 38.3% of the team’s free throws.

We’re going right back to Lonzo in the Bulls’ home opener. He looked great in the team’s debut on Thursday, scoring 5 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists in just 14 minutes.

Lonzo’s still on a minutes restriction, slated for about 14-16 minutes per game for now. In his first game back, Lonzo recorded 6 potential assists and made 21 passes in his limited game time. Ball’s always been a pass-first PG and it look’s like nothing’s changed.

Tonight against the Thunder look for Lonzo to get a few more valuable minutes and I’m expecting him to make the most of it once again.

The Thunder’s defense has been tough since last season, but with their Head Coach’s former team in the building, their might be a little more motivation for the Bulls in this one..

As long as Anthony Davis’ line sits in the 24-26 point range, I will continue to bet it. Davis has started the season on absolute fire. He’s scored 36 and 35 in their first two games and he’s the first Laker since Kobe, to start the year with back to back 30 point games.

Rookie Head Coach, JJ Reddick, has been adamant about running this offense through Davis and it’s been paying dividends. Two games into the year and AD is seeing a 32.2% usage rate, he’s averaging 16 free throw attempts per game, and he’s shooting 55% from the field; 81% from the stripe.

Davis has taken an astounding 60% of the Lakers’ free throws this year, he’s accounted for 39.9% of the team’s points and taking 30.4% of the team’s field goal attempts.

Taking a Backseat

It’s just two games into the season, but Lebron’s 22.3% usage rate is the lowest he’s ever seen in his career. I don’t expect it to stay that low, but this could be the first season Lebron doesn’t lead his team in usage rate.

If the Lakers want to succeed, Anthony Davis has to be their best player; I can’t stress it enough. It seems like Coach Reddick sees it the same way and now the Lakers have started the year 2-0 for the first time since Lebron made the move to LA.

Davis has played 38 minutes in back to back games, and tonight against the Kings it should be more of the same. This is the highest usage rate AD’s seen since his days in New Orleans, and he’s shown he’s still more than capable of handling it.
