#22 St. John’s vs Georgia Prediction
Nothing beats early morning college basketball to kick off an NFL Sunday slate—especially a matchup between two teams coming off polar-opposite results.
No. 22 St. John’s enters this game riding high after a dominant 25-point win over Virginia on Friday night. Meanwhile, Georgia is looking to bounce back after a rough showing in a blowout loss to No. 15 Marquette on Saturday morning.
That loss should light a fire under the Bulldogs to come out motivated and prove themselves against the Red Storm. On the flip side, St. John’s has been through the wringer. Thursday night, they battled No. 13 Baylor in a double-overtime heartbreaker, losing on a buzzer-beater three. Less than 24 hours later, they delivered an impressive blowout win over Virginia. While they’re well-conditioned, all that play in such a short span is bound to catch up with them—especially after such an emotional stretch.
Georgia may not have the same résumé of battle-tested games as St. John’s, but sometimes, getting punched in the mouth early (looking at you, Marquette) can be the wake-up call a team needs. The Bulldogs have also had solid moments, including a matchup with Georgia Tech (ranked 110th by Bart Torvik).
This Georgia team is sneaky good. They’re ranked in the top 60 in both offensive and defensive efficiency, one of the best rebounding squads in the country, and they excel at getting to the free throw line (15th nationally) while rarely fouling (23rd). Disciplined, fundamentally sound teams like this are tough to fade.
Line Movement
If you’re reading this on Saturday, watch this line closely. It opened at -7.5 in favor of St. John’s and has already climbed to -8.5. If it somehow drops to -6.5, I’d jump on it. However, I expect this line to keep climbing, potentially hitting double digits. No matter where it lands, I’m riding with the Bulldogs.
All the wear and tear on St. John’s will show come Sunday morning.
