As another College Hoops Saturday rolls around, of course we are going to discuss the top ranked Auburn Tigers as they head into Oxford to try and stay perfect in conference play against the Ole Miss Rebels. Auburn has won 12 straight games heading into this matchup, but the Rebels are ready to spoil the Tigers road trip.

Ole Miss was on a three game losing skid, but snapped it with a home win against Texas on Wednesday. They did not cover the spread in that contest, and find themselves as 5 point underdogs at home this Saturday. This will be the 2nd of three straight home games for Ole Miss, and they will likely want to take advantage of being on their home court.

Auburn sits alone on top of the SEC, and it will be very tough to dethrone them. The Tigers aren’t looking ahead at all, as they host Oklahoma next week, who we know can’t play away from Norman. Ole Miss hosts Kentucky on the same day, which is obviously a much bigger spot to look forward to. Can they stay focused at home and potentially take down the top team in the nation?

Will Pedulla Rally Rebels at Home?

Ole Miss is a very good team this year. Chris Beard has lead this squad to a 16-5 record so far, they are 10-1 at home, but just 5-3 in SEC play. With as stacked as that conference is this year, the Rebels know they can’t afford another loss, especially at home. Even if they are facing the scariest team in the country.

Auburn is the real deal. We’ve seen it all year long with the utter domination they have displayed, and personally, I don’t see it stopping. I don’t believe that Ole Miss has the front court to compete with Johni Broome down low. This guy is arguably the most forceful big man in the country, and he demands respect. The guy leads the team in minutes, points, rebounds, assists and blocks, and has 12 double-doubles this year.

Ole Miss may try and push the pace in this game, but Auburn has the talent to keep up with them regardless of the tempo. While the Tigers may struggle to get to the free throw line, the offensive efficiency is undeniable. Auburn has had a couple of close games on the road recently, and while I do think this one could get scary, I will be backing the Tigers to win the game.

I have not booked this yet, because alternate rebound lines are not out, but here is what I’m targeting.

• Auburn ML
• Johni Broome 10+ Rebounds

I would imagine we will be able to find this for at least even money, but I think anything under -120 will be a play for me. Like I mentioned up top, Broome is simply a force in the paint. Excluding the game against Georgia State where he played just 2 minutes, Broome has had 10+ boards in 12 of his L15 games. In his last two since returning from injury, Broome has gone for 16 points and 14 boards against the Vols, and is coming off a 26-16 performance against LSU in Baton Rouge.

I believe Broome will bully the Ole Miss front court and lead the Tigers to yet another SEC victory.
