The last Super Tuesday of the College Hoops regular season is here, and we are blessed with ANOTHER SEC Showdown between two Top 25 teams. The top ranked Auburn Tigers head to College Station to take on the #22 Texas A&M Aggies in both team’s 2nd to last regular season game.

Auburn has wrapped up the SEC regular season title and the #1 seed in the conference tournament. But they aren’t just going to roll over and die. Especially with a big game against Alabama on Saturday, Bruce Pearl will keep his team primed and ready, playing the best basketball they can. They’ve lost just twice this season, once in SEC play, and they are ready to roll for the month of March.

As for the Aggies, they are sitting at 6th in the SEC but are still able to move. Depending on how other teams finish, Texas A&M could jump as high as 4th in the conference or 10th. They have all the motivation in the world, especially considering it is Senior Night for a couple of crucial players in this lineup. Can they get a big upset win to cap off their season at Reed Arena? Or will Auburn continue to dominate anyone who gets in their way?

Aggies Host Tigers on Senior Night

The Aggies need something positive. They’ve dropped four straight games after starting SEC play 9-3, and now they are battling for seeding in the tournament. This is their much tougher opponent left on the schedule as they go to Baton Rouge to face an LSU team whom they’ve already beaten before, so their focus should be on the Tigers tonight.

The Aggies only hope in this game is slowing things down. Auburn plays faster, but they play to their opponent’s pace on the road. Ranking 115th overall and 183rd in possessions per game on the road, the Tigers still have an incredibly efficient offense. Buzz Williams will know this and try to limit the chances he gives to Auburn, and will milk the shot clock on offense.

The Aggies rank 227th in pace, dropping four spots at home, and boast a Top 20 defense overall and in eFG%. Texas A&M’s offense will not be the reason they win tonight (if they pull that off), but I do trust their defense to step up in a possible look ahead spot for the Tigers. I’ll be backing defenses and the under in this matchup.

Auburn’s offense is good. We know this. But they have a HUGE rivalry game against Alabama on Saturday. They’ve already locked up the #1 seed in the SEC tournament and likely the #1 overall seed for March Madness. What do they care about this game?

Defensively they can hold their own as well, and they are very good at defending the perimeter on the road, ranking 31st in 3P Rate and 18th in 3P% Defense. Like I said, the Aggies won’t rely on their offense, and even if they try, they won’t be able to shoot lights out and keep up, as Texas A&M shoots just 28% from deep at home (Bottom 12).

I trust the Aggies defense to double Broome in the post and make the Tiger’s guards panic. Offensively, the Aggies will slow things down as much as they can, keeping the ball out of Auburn’s hands. Ultimately, I see this being a grunge match that Texas A&M might have a chance to pull off. But they only do that if it doesn’t turn into a shootout.
