After surviving an almighty scare from Maryland on Friday, South Carolina is a win away from a fifth consecutive trip to the Final Four. But can Duke thwart their trek to Tampa in their regional final matchup in Birmingham (1:00 pm ET, ABC)?

Over the last five seasons, South Carolina is 23-2 in the NCAA Tournament, losing only to Stanford in the Final Four in 2021 and to Iowa in the Final Four in 2023.
Of those 23 wins, only three have come by single digits: a 69-61 win over North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen in 2022, a 79-75 win over Indiana in the Sweet Sixteen last year, and Friday’s 71-67 Sweet Sixteen win over Maryland.
The fourth-seeded Terrapins had the top-seeded Gamecocks on the ropes as they held a 60-59 lead inside the final two and a half minutes. But South Carolina wasn’t rattled by the late deficit, and a 7-0 run was the key in a clutch closing stretch.
To set up a Final Four matchup with either Texas or TCU, the Gamecocks (33-3) must see off second-seeded Duke (29-7), who is looking to reach the Final Four for the first time since 2006, when they lost to Maryland in the championship game.
The Blue Devils reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 2013 with a 47-38 win over North Carolina, continuing their outstanding defensive play during the tournament with a stellar showing against the rival Tar Heels, who shot only 28.3% from the field in the game and scored just six points in the fourth quarter.
These two teams have met already this season, and Duke played South Carolina closer than most teams have this season. Can they improve upon that effort in the rematch?

Duke vs South Carolina Prediction & Picks
In December, the Gamecocks welcomed the Blue Devils to Columbia for an ACC-SEC Challenge matchup, and #3 South Carolina defeated #8 Duke 81-70.
South Carolina led by 20 entering the fourth quarter, but Duke trimmed the deficit to eight with a 13-1 run before the Gamecocks steadied the ship and closed out the win.
Prior to Friday’s win over Maryland, that was just one of six wins by 15 or fewer points for South Carolina this season.
- 68-62 vs Michigan (11/4)
- 71-57 vs NC State (11/10)
- 81-70 vs Duke (12/5)
- 66-56 vs LSU (1/24)
- 70-63 at Tennessee (1/27)
- 78-66 vs Kentucky (3/2)
- 71-67 vs Maryland (3/27)
Could we see an even closer game this time around? A much better start will help. In the first matchup, they trailed 28-12 after a quarter and 51-31 at halftime.
Since a 70-62 loss to Louisville on February 20, Duke has allowed an average of 49 points per game. Only NC State, in the Blue Devils’ 76-62 win in the ACC tournament title game, has managed to hit the 60-point mark in that stretch. And in three NCAA Tournament games, opponents have shot 29.8% (45 of 151) from the field and 22.5% (9 of 40) from three.
But South Carolina is a whole different animal, and the tense tilt with Maryland should be a wakeup call that brings out their best against Duke. Take the spread and the over in this one. There is a reason why this team so rarely has single-digit wins, after all.
