Green Bay vs IU Indianapolis Preview
A Horizon League classic unfolds tonight between Green Bay and IU Indianapolis, formerly known as IUPUI. Both teams are heading into this matchup from very different places. The Jaguars are fresh off a five-point upset win over Alabama A&M as six-point underdogs, while the Phoenix are desperate to break a three-game losing streak. Their recent losses to Evansville, Ohio State, and Campbell came by a combined 56 points, but Green Bay finds itself as a three-point road favorite in Indianapolis. That is no surprise—advanced analytics rank the Jaguars among the worst teams in the nation, sitting 12th from the bottom per Bart Torvik.
Despite their struggles, Green Bay has shown flashes of strong play, particularly offensively. They are deadly from behind the arc, ranking 82nd in three-point percentage on the road, and sit fourth nationally in three-point rate. They are also highly efficient inside, boasting a top-50 ranking in two-point percentage, which improves to 24th on the road. Combine that with their 25th-ranked effective field goal (eFG) offense, and the Phoenix bring serious scoring potential to the table.
Defense, however, is another story—Green Bay’s isn’t great, but IU Indy’s is far worse. The Jaguars own the fifth-worst defense in the country, with only two defensive categories outside the 300s: defensive rebounding (219th) and turnover percentage (263rd). They allow opponents to shoot over 36% from three and nearly 60% from two, making their defense a virtual turnstile for opposing offenses.

Coming off three tough losses, Green Bay should be hungry to pounce on the nation’s proverbial punching bag, IU Indy. If you’re okay with paying the juice, -158 isn’t a bad moneyline play, but I fully endorse taking Green Bay -3. And if head coach Doug Gottlieb’s tweet about December was a joke, let’s hope the Phoenix aren’t laughing tonight.
