A Top 15 Big 12 Showdown happens in a historic College Hoops arena tonight as the Kansas Jayhawks host the Houston Cougars at Allen Fieldhouse this evening. Kansas has won their last two coming into this contest, but will certainly have their hands full. The Cougars are 7-0 in conference play, and find themselves on an 11 game winning streak, having not lost since November 30th.
While Houston hasn’t necessarily played the toughest part of their schedule, you can’t deny how dominant this team has been. With just three losses this season, all by 5 points or less on a neutral site and two of them in overtime, the Cougars are well on their way to another Big 12 regular season title. But the Jayhawks have other plans on their mind.
Kansas has looked fine since they lost to the Mountaineers at home, aside from being nonexistent in Ames. With no look ahead spot on the horizon, this is a game I see the Jayhawks getting up for.

Cougars Go To Lawrence to Face Jayhawks
Houston is statistically the best team in the nation, and rank 1st overall defensively. They play incredibly slow basketball but are very efficient on offense, making them a tough team to beat. However, they do not get to the free throw line very often and Kansas is a team that doesn’t allow many free throws.
The Jayhawks defense is Top 30 in the nation overall and in eFG%, plus their offense is in that realm as well. The Jayhawks have played a little slower this year than in year’s past, but today I could see them speeding things up to disrupt Houston.
Overall, Kansas has more offensive talent, and with two very good defenses, that could be the difference maker tonight. Plus you’ve gotta love the Jayhawks at home, as it’s very rare Bill Self loses multiple home games in the same season.

Houston vs Kansas Prediction: Kansas Wins Outright, Over 126.5
Best Bets: Zeke Mayo Over 13.5 Points (-125) BetOnline
Mayo has emerged as the go-to scorer for the Jayhawks, and even against Houston’s stout defense, I see him getting plenty of shots up. He’s shot double digit field goal attempts in 8 of his L9 contests, going for 14+ in 6/9 games. Mayo has also been letting it fly from deep more, taking at least 6 threes in 7 of his L9 games, knocking down 3+ five separate times.
At Allen Fieldhouse, he’s averaging 25 points in his L5 games, scoring as many as 27 in the loss to West Virginia. As a Lawrence native, Mayo will take over if he has to in this game, willing his team to a win by whatever means necessary.
