NCAA Basketball Predictions, Odds & Best Bets (1/13)

A new week is here, and Monday’s College Hoops slate is small, but we’ve still got a few college basketball games sprinkled on the schedule. So of course, we dove into the NCAA hoops slate and found our best bets to start off the week!

NCAA Basketball Best Bets – January 13th, 2025

I’ll admit, none of the bigger games caught my eyes. So I’m going back to my bread and butter with some no-name college hoops. Congrats to you if you’ve heard of these teams before, you’re probably just as big of a College Hoops sicko as me.

Let’s get into it.

Southeastern Louisiana vs Stephen F. Austin Predictions

Best Bets: SELA/SFA Under 132.5 (-107) BetOnline

Back the under in this crapshoot of a game tonight. Southeastern Louisiana is nothing to write home about offensively, ranking 283rd in overall efficiency. Their defense isn’t phenomenal overall, however on the road this season, they are a Top 85 defense in terms of efficiency, eFG% and offensive rebounds allowed. The defense travels with the Lions, but not so much the offense. They rank 170th in pace, but play the Lumberjacks who have no problem slowing things down.

Stephen F. Austin is at home, where they rank 235th overall in possessions per game. Offensively, they don’t have the stuff. They are north of 300 in offensive efficiency, eFG% and turnovers. However, they get to the free throw line and crash the offensive glass. Could this lead to extra possessions and points? Sure, but SFA is known to pass the ball out, reset, and run more offensive sets.

Defensively, the Lumberjacks can compete with anyone. Sure they give up offensive boards, but they are top 60 in overall efficiency, while also ranking 36th in eFG% and Top 30 in turnovers forced. Ultimately, SFA will slow things down, and we have two defenses that are lightyears ahead of their offensive counterparts.

Give me defense, give me the under!

Bethune Cookman vs Southern Predictions

Best Bets: Bethune Cookman +6 (-110) BetOnline

This is simply too many points for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. After a rough start to the season, they have won two straight road games, holding their opponents to under 60 points in each contest. While they play fast and don’t have much offense, the team makes up for it on the defensive end. Bethune-Cookman ranks 92nd in overall efficiency, and Southern doesn’t have much offense as it is.

The hosting Jaguars rank 288th overall offensively, 323rd in eFG%, and 340th in FT Rate Defense. Southern struggles to defend the perimeter, and against a team that thrives off of free throws and shooting from downtown, I see the Wildcats competing in this up tempo game, and possibly even winning outright. Regardless, I trust them to keep this within a few points, and within Southern’s FT shooting being nearly the worst in the country, I am not worried about them stretching this game out at the charity stripe.
