NCAA Basketball Best Bets – November 27th, 2024
New Orleans vs #17 Baylor Predictions
Best Bet: New Orleans/Baylor Over 150.5 (-110) BetOnline
This is what the kids call a “tune up game” for the Bears. They just went to double OT against St. Johns, only to get blown out by Tennessee the following day. Now Baylor is back home from the Bahamas, and have an easy matchup against a team ranked north of 300 before a slight break.
Baylor goes to Connecticut to take on the Huskies a week from today. Like I said, this is their tune up game. I don’t see them holding back at all, and expect them to run up the score following their disappointing performance in the Caribbean. The Privateers are fine with running, as they rank 40th overall in pace, but 327th in adjusted defensive efficiency.
I see all of the Baylor scorers showing out at home tonight in preparation for a tough matchup when they regroup. The number on the spread is far too high for me, and I glanced at Baylor’s TT, but ultimately I do trust New Orleans to do their part and put the ball in the hoop enough for us to clear this number.
UW-Milwaukee vs UCF Predictions
Best Bet: UCF -13 (-110) Bovada
I really like the Knights in this spot at home against an inferior opponent. So far this season, UCF boasts a Top 80 offense and defense, while also being Top 80 in possessions per game as well. They do an incredible job of rebounding offensively and geting to the free throw line, ranking Top 60 in both of those categories.
After a huge win over 18th ranked Texas A&M, UCF beat up on teams ranked 156th, 102nd, and 312th on Bart Torvik. They they went on the road for the first time this year, and had a bit of a wake up call in two losses to #33 Wisconsin and #70 LSU in triple OT.
Point being, they are now back at home against the Panthers who rank 172nd currently. The Knights are not going to play with their food. I expect them to handle business back at home in front of their fans where they are clearly much more comfortable.
#20 Texas A&M vs #21 Creighton Predictions
Best Bet: Texas A&M ML (-165) BetOnline
Now I know I am a “Pay the Juiceman” advocate, but even here I’ll look for a pairing. Both of these teams lost games they shouldn’t have yesterday. In this Player’s Era tournament, NIL money is on the line, so I expect both teams to be fired up in this ball game.
However, I am going to back the much better defensive team.
I thought Creighton would expose an undersized San Diego State team with Ryan Kalkbrenner. They did not. The Aggies have the front court to compete, plus their defense is top tier in the country. Creighton lives and dies by the three, and I expect them to die by it as they have been recently.
Texas A&M ranks 55th in the country in 3P% defense and 24th in overall efficiency. I see them making the Blue Jays guards panic on offense resulting in plenty of missed shots and a 3rd straight Creighton loss.
I will be pairing this with Samford on the ML to get a (+157) two teamer on BetOnline.
The Bulldogs narrowly escaped against NDSU last night and did not cover the -10 for us. Tonight against Utah Valley, I see them coming very focused. Ultimately, they are the better team, and they rank 3rd in the country in pace. They are also 32nd in eFG% offense, 37th in 3P Rate while shooting over 37% from deep. I see lots of possessions in this game as Utah Valley likes to run as well, but does not defend the perimeter as well as they’ll need to tonight.
#4 Auburn vs Memphis Predictions
Best Bet: Memphis +9.5 (-112) BetOnline
Full disclosure, I have not taken this bet yet. However, as soon as it hits double digits I will be pressing the button.
Auburn is good, do not get me wrong. They battled back down 18 against a very good defensive Iowa State team to win, and beat the Tar Heels from start to finish on both ends of the floor. But this Memphis team is being disrespected in my opinion.
They have the bigs to contain Broome down low, who went for a first half double double last night. They also have the guards that can score at will, especially Tyrese Hunter who is averaging 24.5 points per game so far this tournament. By himself, Hunter is 12/20 from beyond the arc this tournament, and I do see a big game tonight for him.
The Tigers (Memphis) are not afraid to run, draw contact, and get to the free throw line. They shoot 45% from beyond the arc, get to the free throw line on 48% of possessions, and are Top 20 offensively and 55th defensively. Memphis is clearly battle tested and will not take Auburn lightly. I do lean with them to carry their momentum and win this game outright, but I certainly love them to keep it within double digits.
