NCAA Basketball Best Bets – December 8th, 2024
Saint Peter’s vs Iona Predictions
Best Bets: Saint Peter’s ML (-105) BetOnline
The Peacocks have been flying high this season. They are 4-4, but had won four straight before losing their first MAAC matchup at home to Manhattan on Friday. Against an inferior Iona team, this is the perfect spot to bounce back and turn things around.
Not only are the Peacocks ranked 100 spots higher than their hosts, but they are also Top 50 in eFG% Defense. They do a fantastic job of defending the perimeter, ranking Top 60 in both 3P Rate and Percentage defensively, and offensively they shoot well and crash the glass.
Iona likes to play much faster than their visitors, but this could help the Peacocks, as the Gaels struggle on both sides of the ball. They rank north of 342nd in eFG% on offense and defense, while also ranking north of 300 in several other categories as well (AdjO, TO%, FT%). This seems like a game that the Peacocks come to play, winning an easy one in the MAAC.
Chicago State vs Saint Louis Predictions
Best Bets: Chicago State/SLU Over 154.5 (-110) BetOnline
These teams are freaky fast.
Saint Louis is 76th in possessions per game, 57th in eFG%, while also ranking Top 55 in 3P Rate. The offensive is Top 100 overall, and they are coming off a very bad outing to San Francisco in their toughest game to date. This is a total tune up game before Missouri Valley play starts, and I don’t see the Billikens holding back.
Chicago State is also very fast, ranking 47th in pace, getting up and down the floor for over 70 possessions per game. Now, I’m not going to sell you on their offense. They stink. But they stink on both sides of the ball. Ranking north of 350 in most offensive categories and north of 325 in most defensive, the Cougars will have their work cut out for them. However, they should push the pace and give SLU plenty of chances to do their part.
UCLA vs #12 Oregon Predictions
Best Bet: UCLA/Oregon Under 140.5 (-110) BetOnline
Defense is going to show out in this ball game. The Oregon Ducks are undefeated, coming off 5 straight Top 85 wins, with 3 of them over Top 52 teams. They host a UCLA team that plays at a snail’s pace, and although Oregon is middle of the pack, their defense is very good.
The Ducks have faced some very powerful offenses, holding them all in check. The Ducks are 37th overall defensively and do a great job of keeping their opponent off of the free throw line. Offensively they are very sound, but are north of 200 in 3P Rate. UCLA ranks 246th in pace, so their slower, north of 300 in 3P Rate, so they shoot even less threes, and are a Top 5 defensive team.
Not only that, but this will be the Bruins toughest opponent all year long. Their one loss came to New Mexico on a neutral site, their only other game against a Top 100 team. On the road against Oregon, looking ahead to Arizona, I see UCLA playing extremely slow (like always), trying to win this game by limiting the Ducks’ offensive possessions.
