Pacific vs Colorado Preview
Coming off a blowout loss to No. 5 Iowa State last Wednesday, the Colorado Buffaloes return to the friendly confines of Boulder. Today, they face the 5-4 Pacific Tigers, fresh off a win over Cal State Fullerton. The line opened at -17.5 in favor of Colorado but has since dropped to -14 and continues to shift. Bettors seem eager to back the Tigers, but why?
I love Colorado in this spot. Sure, they have a game against Colorado State on Saturday, but there’s no travel involved, so I wouldn’t consider this a “look-ahead” situation. With the line potentially dropping further before tipoff, the Buffaloes look increasingly appealing.
This is the weakest opponent Colorado has faced all season. Even if the concern is Colorado easing up late, that’s a risk worth taking. The Buffaloes boast a top-100 defense that avoids fouling and dominates the boards, which should neutralize Pacific’s offense, ranked 284th nationally (per Bart Torvik).
On offense, Colorado shines in effective field goal percentage (top 70), free throw attempts (43rd), and three-point shooting (19th). While turnovers are a concern (338th nationally), Pacific is equally poor at forcing them (323rd).
After battling tough opponents like Michigan State, UConn (whom they beat), and Iowa State in the Maui Invitational, Colorado should be ready to rebound against a bottom-tier team. Pacific has lost all three of their games against top-190 teams by at least 10 points. This could be a statement game for Colorado as they seek redemption after their loss to Iowa State.
