Penn State vs Rutgers Predictions
Nothing like a good old-fashioned system play to kick off the day. Fading the storm didn’t treat us well over the weekend, going 0-2, but it’s a tried-and-true method I will stick with. Last Thursday, unranked Penn State shocked No. 8 Purdue with an 81-70 upset, sending the Nittany Lions faithful storming the court in celebration. Now, we get to fade Penn State as they hit the road to face a Rutgers team coming off a tough double-digit loss to Ohio State.
The 5-4 Scarlet Knights are a well-rounded squad, ranking inside the top 100 in both offense and defense per Bart Torvik. They’re undefeated at home, although against a light schedule featuring teams all ranked outside the top 200. However, Rutgers has been tested plenty this season with matchups against Ohio State, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Notre Dame—all top-100 teams. Despite losing three of those four contests, Rutgers’ offense has remained excellent, ranking in the top 50 nationally. They take care of the ball, dominate the boards, get to the line, and convert free throws at a high rate. This offense is no joke.
Neither is Penn State’s defense, which ranks in the top 50 nationally and excels at forcing turnovers—ranked fourth in the country per Bart Torvik. Rutgers’ ability to limit mistakes and maintain efficiency on offense will be key to pulling off the win. The Nittany Lions might still be riding the high from their upset over Purdue, while Rutgers is looking for redemption after being humbled by Ohio State. This is a classic “get-right” spot for Rutgers and a “letdown” scenario for Penn State.
Fade the storm. Pay the juice. Give me Rutgers.
