See Picks & Statistics For The GameToday’s matchup between Seton Hall and VCU features two teams known for their slow pace and elite defenses. Both squads struggle offensively, ranking among the worst in shooting efficiency, which sets the stage for a low-scoring affair. With Seton Hall’s defense proving suffocating and VCU facing a serious challenge against a top-tier defense, this game promises to be a grind.

Seton Hall vs VCU Prediction
The new system to kick off the college basketball season has been fading Seton Hall’s offense until they finally surpassed the 60-point mark. So far, in their first four games, their season-high is 57 points, which came in their opener against Saint Peter’s. Their most recent game against Wagner on Saturday ended with a combined total of 82 points. Yes, 82—not 182—just 82. Seton Hall beat Wagner 54-28, with the total set at 120.5. I’ll be living in the land down under until further notice with this team.
Seton Hall’s Struggles on Offense
So, why is Seton Hall and their opponents scoring so little? Well, Seton Hall is one of the slowest teams in the country, ranking 14th slowest on Bart Torvik and 6th on KenPom. At the same time, they boast one of the best defenses in the nation. They have held teams under 60 points in every game this season, with two opponents scoring fewer than 50. The Pirates force turnovers (11th), defend the perimeter (59th), and block shots (88th). Their meticulous defense gives opposing offenses fits—but their own offense is another story. Seton Hall ranks 336th in offensive turnover percentage, 345th in 2-point shooting, and 11th worst in free-throw percentage. Once they gain possession, it’s pretty much a dumpster fire.
Low-Scoring Battle Ahead
Today, the Pirates face the VCU Rams, who have a similar style. They like to play slow, are solid defensively, but struggle on offense. In my opinion, VCU’s offensive stats are inflated because of their weak competition. In their four games this season, only one opponent was ranked in the top 150 on Bart Torvik. The others—Bellarmine (328th), Merrimack (212th), and Loyola MD (333rd)—aren’t exactly powerhouses. In their most recent game against Loyola MD (ranked 300th in adjusted defensive efficiency), the Rams managed to score 83 points, shooting 49.2% from the floor and 30.8% from three. Today, they face a defense ranked 295 spots higher than Loyola MD’s. VCU is in for a rude awakening.
For those of you who enjoy college basketball unders, this is going to be a lot of fun. Both teams force turnovers, defend the perimeter well, and block shots at a high rate. If you love the low-scoring grind, this is your Super Bowl. I expect Seton Hall to keep their streak of not reaching 60 points alive. If the Pirates’ defense can hold VCU under 70, we’ll be in good shape.
Line Movement
The total opened at 125 and has moved up to 127.5. I have a 127 ticket, but I fully endorse this bet at 126 and 125 as well. Find the best number you can, and maybe wait to see if the line creeps back up.
Bet: Under 126 on BetOnline
