In this Week 10 ACC showdown, No. 18 Pitt heads to Dallas to take on SMU, looking to defend their undefeated record against a high-scoring Mustangs offense. SMU’s home-field edge and explosive playmakers could spell trouble for a Pitt defense that’s struggled on the road. This matchup has all the ingredients for a classic, with Pitt aiming to stay perfect and SMU set to test their mettle.

#18 Pitt vs SMU Predictions
Hop in the Stang, we’re riding with SMU in Week 10. You might see a top-25 ranked Pitt team fresh off a 28-point win over Syracuse and think, ‘Wow, this Panthers squad is legit.’ I think otherwise—that dominant performance was more about Kyle McCord’s awful game, where he threw five interceptions. Yes, five. Three of those were pick-sixes, so 21 of Pitt’s 41 points came from Syracuse’s mistakes. Without those defensive touchdowns, this is a seven-point game.
The Panthers’ offense was only on the field for 18:48. Syracuse may have had an off night, but when they clicked, Pitt’s defense couldn’t keep up.
Now Pitt has to travel to Dallas to take on an SMU squad that averages 41 points per game while allowing 23.4. The Mustangs are coming off a three-game road trip, capped with a tough win over Duke they arguably should have lost. Before that, they dominated both Louisville and Stanford. Now they’re back home, regrouped, and ready for a ranked opponent. SMU’s offense, averaging 421.9 total yards per game (244.9 passing, 177 rushing), will be a lot for Pitt’s defense to handle. Pitt allows 356 yards per game but has given up 435 on the road—a different team away from home.
Sure, Pitt’s 7-0 and fourth in the ACC standings, but who have they played? Kent State? Youngstown State? Cal? Syracuse? No ranked teams on their schedule. Meanwhile, SMU has faced Louisville, BYU, and Duke—some solid competition.
I think SMU rolls through the Panthers in this classic ACC matchup.
