The last time Central Michigan and Oklahoma State got together on the football field was back in 2016. The game came down to the final play, where Central Michigan pulled off a desperation lateral play to pull off the upset over the 24th ranked team in the country.
The two teams will meet on Thursday to open their seasons. This will be the third meeting all-time between them, and the series is tied 1-1.
The series has been relatively low scoring, with the first game ending in a 24-13 final and the second ending 30-27.
According to BetOnline, Oklahoma State is a heavy favorite as the #12 team in the country. They are coming off of a strong season, and they will look to open with a commanding win at home.

Tale of the Tape for Thursday Night
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off of a season where they made the Big 12 Championship game. They lost that game to Baylor 21-16 and had their College Football Playoff hopes dashed.
They ended up playing in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame. They were victorious 37-35 after coming back from a 28-7 deficit. They ended at 12-2, and had a productive offseason in recruiting.
The Central Michigan Chippewas finished with an impressive 9-4 record in 2021. They also won their last 5 games, including a win in the Sun Bowl over Washington State 24-21.
That was the first postseason trophy for Central Michigan since 2012, and it gave them plenty of momentum moving into the offseason. Their Over/Under win total for the 2022 season sits at Over/Under 7, but odds are they will surpass that again.
With both teams having strong 2021 seasons, they enter 2022 with high hopes. Central Michigan is tied for the 3rd shortest odds to win the MAC Conference. Oklahoma State is also tied for the 3rd shortest odds to win the Big 12.
With the controversial ending to the game between these two in 2016, I wouldn’t say there is bad blood between them. However, that win by Central Michigan did put a set back to Oklahoma State’s season. They will want to run the score up to prove a point this season.

- Central Michigan covered the spread 8 times in 13 games last season
- Last season, 5 of Central Michigan’s 13 games went over the point total
Central Michigan vs. #12 Oklahoma State Prediction and Picks
Central Michigan vs. Oklahoma State Prediction: Oklahoma State 45, Central Michigan 10
Central Michigan vs. Oklahoma State Best Bets: Oklahoma State Cowboys -21.5 (-104 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
I do not see an upset in the making in this Week 1 matchup. Oklahoma State has a solid defense that will make it difficult for the Chippewas to move the ball effectively.
After last season, I believe we could see Oklahoma State as a true contender for the playoff this season. A big win in their home opener will go a long way in building confidence heading into the tougher part of their schedule.
Avoid betting Oklahoma State outright, as there is absolutely no value in it. However, the spread is a good choice, as the team covered the spread in 10 of 12 games last season.
