2025-26 College Football Championship
With the conclusion of the college football season, Ohio State claimed the national championship in a thrilling victory over Notre Dame. The new 12-team playoff format was an overwhelming success, providing plenty of excitement and surprises. It was far from a predictable path for the top teams, as the No. 8 seed triumphed over the No. 7 to take it all. As die-hard sports fans, we cannot help but look ahead to next season, and BetOnline has already released the national championship odds for the 2025 season. When it comes to futures, I am not one to back the favorites—I avoid the chalk picks.
My early lean for 2025 is LSU, led by standout quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. As a junior, he guided the Tigers to a 9-4 record, with losses to Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, and USC. The Louisiana native threw for over 4,000 yards, completing 64.2% of his passes, with 29 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. LSU consistently produces top-tier offensive talent, but their defense has been a glaring weakness in recent years. If they can shore up their defensive issues, this team has the potential to make a serious run next year. Am I a fan of head coach Brian Kelly? Not particularly, but with nearly 20/1 odds to win the national championship, I am willing to overlook that. However, I am in no rush to bet on them, just yet.
For anyone thinking about placing a futures bet, here is my honest advice: wait. Why tie up your hard-earned money on a bet that will not pay out for an entire year? There is so much time for teams to gain or lose talent through the transfer portal—college sports are evolving rapidly, and rosters can shift dramatically. Be patient and wait until mid-summer to make your move.
I will return in late July with another update on the odds, my leans, and potential bets for the season.
