Slight Lean: Miami (OH) ML (+115) BetOnline
Colby Marchio: Miami (OH) is riding high after a dominant 20-9 victory over a solid Northern Illinois team. Meanwhile, Bowling Green has spent the last three weeks cruising against weak competition: Ball State, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan. Take out Kent State, and Ball State and Central Michigan are the worst teams in the MAC—one with no quarterback, the other with a porous defense. While Bowling Green’s defense is solid, they’re now up against arguably the best offense in the conference. I’m leaning toward the RedHawks to get it done.
Oklahoma State vs #25 Colorado Best Bets
Slight Lean: Colorado -16.5 (-108) BetOnline
Colby Marchio: The Buffaloes return home after a tough loss to Kansas to face an Oklahoma State team that hasn’t won since Week 3. Friday presents the perfect opportunity for Colorado to bounce back, celebrate their seniors, and quiet critics doubting their turnaround this season. Oklahoma State is dead last in the nation in yards allowed per game, just 10 yards shy of tying the worst team in college football, Kent State. Expect Colorado to make a statement, blowing out the Cowboys and running up the score in front of their home crowd.
Nate Hornung: I also lean with the Buffs. Oklahoma State is hot garbage and are testing a young QB. Even though a shot at the conference championship is incredibly slim, they need to do everything in their power to leave no doubt if that chance arises. That starts with a dominant Senior Night win against a Cowboys team yearning for the season to end.
Oregon State vs #11 Boise State Best Bets
Best Bet: Boise State -18 (-110) BetOnline
Colby Marchio: A big number? Sure. But Boise State has every reason to make a statement to the College Football Playoff committee. At 10-1, their only loss was a narrow three-point defeat to Oregon back in Week 2. Heisman hopeful Ashton Jeanty is coming off a nearly 200-yard rushing performance against one of the nation’s top defenses. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, ranks 107th in rush defense, giving up an average of 202 yards per game on the road. Boise should roll, especially with Oklahoma State likely in for a letdown after their upset win over Washington State last week.
Nate Hornung: Colby said it all. Boise needs to leave no doubt in anyone’s eyes that they belong.
Minnesota vs Wisconsin Best Bets
Slight Lean: Minnesota ML (+105) BetOnline
Nate Hornung: I’m not sure if this one will make it to the counter, but I do have a slight lean towards the Gophers on the road against Wisconsin.
The Gophers have now lost two straight, a heartbreaker against Penn State last week and on the road against Rutgers. They are already bowl eligible, but they can spoil Wisconsin’s postseason hopes and win a rivalry game this weekend. The Gophers have gone on the road in conference play and won (@ UCLA, @ #24 Illinois, Lost by 3 @ #12 Michigan earlier), and they face a Badgers team that is floundering.
Not only have they not had their QB all season long, but they have lost four straight after starting off 5-2. Defensively, the Badgers allow the 84th most rushing yards to opponents, which will certainly come into play with Darius Taylor running the Gophers backfield. Wisconsin also gives up nearly 5 yards per rush, making it all the easier on the Gophers rush heavy offense to thrive.
If I do make this play, it will certainly be the ML for me.
I will also be monitoring Darius Taylor’s Rushing Yards prop which is hovering around 67.5 to 71.5 depending on the book. He’s running for 4.8 yards per carry this year, clearing 70+ yards just 4 times against defenses ranked 38th, 47th, 81st and 103rd in rushing yards allowed per game. I see him getting plenty of carries against Wisconsin (13.9 per game this season), as he’s had 15+ touches in 5 of his L6 games. Mississippi State vs #14 Ole Miss Best Bets
Slight Lean: Ole Miss -26 (-110) BetOnline
Colby Marchio: No team in the nation needs a blowout more than Ole Miss this weekend. After an embarrassing 24-17 loss to Florida, Lane Kiffin and the No. 14 Rebels must leave no doubt against Mississippi State on Friday afternoon. As 26.5-point favorites, Ole Miss has to make a statement to keep their playoff hopes alive. Mississippi State has just two wins all season, ranks sixth worst in yards allowed, and gives up nearly 40 points per game. The Rebels can’t afford another misstep if they want to remain in the College Football Playoff conversation.
Nate Hornung: As a sad, closet Hotty Toddy fan who ripped up his over 9.5 wins ticket last week, I have zero unbiased thoughts so I’ll keep them to myself.
Nebraska vs Iowa Best Bets
Best Bet: Iowa -3.5 (-115) BetOnline
Nate Hornung: Nebraska can’t play away from home. This game is as simple as that. The Cornhuskers are already bowl eligible, they are 0-3 in road games this year against teams with at least one conference win, and the Hawkeyes are a force at home. I trust their defense to stop Raiola, who struggles away from Lincoln, and I don’t think we need to be afraid of the hook.
Iowa has one home loss all season, to Iowa State on a last second field goal. In their last 3 at home, they’ve scored 42. 40, and 40 points, while holding their visitors to 10, 14, and 16. Quite frankly, Nebraska does not have the offense to score as much as they’ll need to in order to keep this game within a field goal. Iowa wins a disgusting game easily here.
