See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts will begin their 2022 season with a divisional rivalry game. Matt Ryan will begin his tenure in Indianapolis, and the Texans will roll with second-year QB, Davis Mills.
The Colts finished 9-8 last season and missed the postseason. They do have one of the best young running back in the league, so that attracted Matt Ryan to the team. He will make his first start with a new team on Sunday for the first time since 2008.
The Texans were bad in 2021. So bad that they transitioned to a new quarterback towards the end of the season. Davis Mills will be the starter for Week 1, and he will try to bring the Texans out of the basement in the AFC South.
The Colts are heavily favored, and they are on the road to start their season. BetOnline has the Colts as 7.5 point favorites against a struggling Texans team that was dead last in offensive production in 2021.

Matt Ryan’s Career Numbers
Matt Ryan has done just about everything but win a Super Bowl in his career. He was the MVP of the league in 2016, he made it to Super Bowl LI with the Falcons, and he was Rookie of the Year in his first career season in 2008.
Ryan is not shy to push the ball down the field. He has never eclipsed the 5,000 yard mark in a season, but he is consistently throwing for 4,000 or more. From 2011-2020 he never failed to hit that mark. He only missed out by 32 yards last season, and the streak was broken.
Bringing a veteran QB to the Colts is not a new procedure. The Colts have tried Phillip Rivers and Carson Wentz in that position over the past two years. It really never worked out, so they targeted the 4-time pro-bowler who turned the Falcons organization around.
Ryan has fantastic numbers in his career. Due to his ability to push the ball down the field, he has struggled with interceptions. However, he has always backed them up with good touchdown numbers.
Matt Ryan Statistics 2008-2021
- 59,735 yards through the air
- 367 touchdowns
- 170 interceptions
- 65.5 completion percentage
- Quarterback Rating of 94.2
The Texans were dead last in total offense last season. They are hoping their new quarterback will give them a spark. However, his play will be overshadowed by the arrival of Matt Ryan in Indy.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans Prediction and Picks
Colts vs. Texans Prediction: Colts 27, Texans 13
Colts vs. Texans Picks: Colts -7.5 (-106 at BetOnline)
The Colts will have a more dynamic look that will be tough to stop this season. With a true arm to throw the ball this season, they will not have to rely so heavily on the rush. This opens up their playbook to try new things, especially play-action passing.
I don’t see the Texans keeping this one very close, as they were second-to-last in stopping the run last season. Jonathan Taylor will have a field day to begin his season. Expect 100 or more yards rather quickly from the young stud.
I have the Colts comfortably in this game, so the spread is a safe bet. They should more than cover a 7.5 point spread, as the Texans will have a hard time on defense trying to figure out the play calling.
