The Green Bay Packers finished last season with the best record in the NFL regular season. They earned the #1 seed and had an automatic bye into the divisional round of the playoffs.
Green Bay held the 3rd best offense last year behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. They ranked in the Top 10 of every major passing statistic, but were middle of the pack in the running game.
One of the strengths from the team last year was the ability to hold onto the ball. They had the least amount of interceptions and 5th fewest turnovers of any team in the league in 2021.
Their defense was solid too. They ranked in the Top 10 in forced turnovers, and they were one of the best at getting to the quarterback and forcing errors. They will surely look to build on that success in 2022, as the offense has taken some hits during the offseason.
Can Aaron Rodgers Continue to be Aaron Rodgers Without a Star Receiver?
The biggest hit the Packers took this offseason was the loss of #1 receiver DaVante Adams. Adams has moved on to play for the Las Vegas Raiders, which has left the Packers with question marks surrounding their receiving core.
Rodgers and Adams have had a special connection over the years. They hooked up for 73 touchdowns since Adams entered the league in 2014, including 29 in the past two seasons alone. Adams had been #1 in the Packers receiving game for years. What are they left with now that he is gone?
The Packers didn’t have much depth at the wide receiver position while Adams was on the team. However, it has only gotten worse, as the team will rely on the trio of Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb in 2022. Here is how each of them stacked up in 2021:
Packers Wide Receiver Stats From 2021
- Allen Lazard: 40 receptions for 513 yards, 8 touchdowns
- Sammy Watkins: 27 receptions for 394 yards, 1 touchdown
- Randall Cobb: 28 receptions for 375 yards, 5 touchdowns
Even though there was some work done by Lazard and Cobb for the Packers last season, no one stacked up to the numbers that Rodgers had with Adams. Here is the comparison of what Adams did in 2021:
DaVante Adams in 2021
- 123 receptions
- 1,553 yards
- 11 touchdowns
The biggest question is “Can Aaron Rodgers be a Top 5 quarterback with the new receiving core?” The answer…probably not. Rodgers has relied on Adams for too long, and he was always his safety valve. To add the amount of work Adams had to any other receiver will be difficult.
Rodgers has taken a hit in the MVP Odds as well. Normally, as the two-time defending MVP, the top spot would automatically be yours. However, that is not the case in 2022, as the team is not expected to do as well as last year.
2022 NFL MVP Odds
Odds are via BetOnline.
- Josh Allen +700
- Patrick Mahomes +800
- Tom Brady +800
- Justin Herbert +900
- Aaron Rodgers +1000
Expect the Packers to run the ball a lot more. They will have to set up passing plays to be able to find success down the field. They are lucky to be in a weaker NFC North Division, because they are still the frontrunners to clinch the division title.

- Minnesota Vikings +240
- Detroit Lions +950

Green Bay’s Playoff Disappointments
Are the Packers a team to bet on in 2022? Let’s take a look pack at the recent playoff matchups for the Packers to answer that question.
Green Bay Packers Recent Playoff Results
- 2021: Loss in Divisional Round to San Francisco 49ers
- 2020: Loss in Conference Championship to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 2019: Loss in Conference Championship to San Francisco 49ers
- 2018: Did Not Qualify
- 2017: Did Not Qualify
Be cautious with the Packers, as they have had a string of playoff disappointments over the past decade. They haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 2010, and this team they have this year is expected to be worse than they were last year.
According to BetOnline, Green Bay is +1200 to win the Super Bowl, and they only trail 4 teams in the lines. Be very careful! It might look like a good bet at +1200, but they don’t have any weapons this year on offense. Aaron Rodgers, can’t magically make receivers appear. He is only human, and he will struggle without a star receiver.
2022 Predictions for the Green Bay Packers
It’s hard to get a feel for exactly how the offense will run in 2022. The defense is set to have another good year, and they are projected in the top half of the league.
With the uncertainty at wide receiver, I wouldn’t be betting for the Packers to win anything more than their division. They play in the weaker NFC North, and they are still projected to win that by a wide margin.
As a safe bet, I would but the Packers right in the middle at 10-7 for 2022. I think Aaron Rodgers has the potential for a good season, but don’t be expecting MVP for the third straight year.
Green Bay Packers 2022 Regular Season Win Total Odds
Odds are via BetOnline.
- Over 10.5: -160
- Under 10.5: +135
In conclusion, the Packers are a playoff team, but they will likely follow the trend of early playoff exits as they would likely be playing in the Wild Card Round against a team with a better record, and especially a better offense. Bet on thee division, but avoid the Super Bowl with the Pack.
