The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a bye week and are in desperate need of a win as they travel to California to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys put up just 9 points two weeks ago as they were embarrassed by the Detroit Lions at home, losing 47-9. Since then, Dallas has had a week to think about where they are in the season, and how to make the most of it going forward.

The Cowboys have been quite the rollercoaster this season. They beat the Browns, but lose at home to the Saints and Ravens, then beat the Steelers on the road, and then get waxed by the Lions in Jerry’s World. Maybe this Cowboys team is just the opposite of last year, meaning they can only play outside of Dallas. Will their road game success continue against the 49ers?

San Francisco is certainly hungry for a win after losing to the Chiefs again last week. They’ve now lost their last two straight at home, and surely they want to give the fans something to cheer about. With no Brandon Aiyuk or Jauan Jennings, the Niners will need a beat up Deebo and Kittle to step up for them offensively.

Can 49ers Overcome Injuries at Home?

The 49ers will be missing some key players on offense with injuries. Brock Purdy will have to find a way to win with Deebo and Ricky Pearsall as his top receivers. Now, the Cowboys have some injuries of their own, as Micah Parsons and Daron Bland are both still inactive.

Ultimately, I have little faith in Dallas’ offense, even though we’ve seen success on the road. They put up just 9 measly points against Detroit. Sure, they are coming off a bye week, but I don’t think extra time is enough to fix the problems that exist. The 49ers know their defense will need to step up in order for them to have success while injured. They are more than capable of doing this, and I like them to shutdown the Cowboys on national television tonight.

While there may be little reason to back Dallas’ defense, I am going to do that this evening as well. We’ve seen what happens when Brock Purdy is missing one or two of his star skill players. The entire offense takes a step back and suffers from it, and tonight I could see him having some issues finding his guys. Dallas has had an extra week to scheme, and now without Aiyuk, the job just got easier. I trust both defensive coordinators to disrupt their opponent’s rhythm and make their life hard on offense.

The Cowboys just got their rear ends kicked at home. They gave up nearly 50, didn’t even score 10, and they’ve been sitting with that for nearly two weeks. Adjustments need to be made on both sides of the ball, but I think they have more success fixing their defensive problems on the road against a beat up 49ers offense. As opposed to fixing their offense that needs to travel and face a very good San Francisco defense that maybe has looked iffy recently.

In my mind, both defenses step up tonight, giving us a low scoring Sunday Night Football matchup.
