Who will the teams be that beat the odds and have better than average seasons? There are always a few teams that surprise us each NFL season, and it can make for big payouts for bettors.
We will compare talent to the odds on BetOnline Sportsbook for three of the most underrated teams heading into the 2022 season. These will be teams to target in division and outright super bowl betting.
2022 NFL Most Underrated Teams
Philadelphia Eagles (+2500 to win Super Bowl LVII)
The Eagles are currently listed well below the Dallas Cowboys in divisional betting and outright super bowl title odds. I see the Eagles as one of the more improved teams heading into 2022.
They surrendered the 2nd least amount of points during the NFL regular season in 2021, and had the most efficient rushing attack on offense. They. had some issues in the passing game, but they have added weapons like A.J. Brown during the offseason to complement their younger talent.
Philadelphia also limited sacks last season and turned the ball over the fewest amount of time out of all 32 teams. With a solid o-line, and a lethal rushing attack, their mobile quarterback will be doing more damage in 2022.
Jalen Hurts had a decent passing season last year, throwing for 3,144 yards and 16 touchdowns. He made more of an impact on the ground, rushing for over 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.
With Hurts entering his third year in the league, the numbers should grow. If the turnovers are limited, I see this team contending for a division title. I have them at 12-5, going 5-1 in the division and finishing just. behind the Cowboys in a tie-breaker.
Cincinnati Bengals (+2200 to win Super Bowl LVII)
The Over/Under for Bengals wins this season is set at 9.5. This isn’t even as high as their win total last season when they had one of the worst offensive lines in the history of the sport.
They are also listed behind the Baltimore Ravens in both divisional odds and outright Super Bowl betting. The Ravens are a team they beat twice last season and also finished with 6 straight losses.
The Bengals don’t seem to be getting respect after making the Super Bowl last season. They only have the 11th best odds to win the title, and they are behind 6 other teams in the AFC.
The offensive line is listed as the 8th best prior to the 2022 season. This will help Joe Burrow stay healthy and make better throws. You could argue that with the o-line they have this season, they would have won Super Bowl LVI. But alas, we will never know.
With the 7th best passing attack last season, expect those numbers to jump up. They also have the 5th best rushing defense, which will help them in a run-heavy AFC North. 11-6 and a division title is what I expect from the improved Bengals.
New England Patriots (+4000 to win Super Bowl LVII)
The Patriots consistently have one of the best defenses in the NFL every season. They were 2nd best last season right behind their rivals in Buffalo. They allowed the 5th fewest points in the league, and nailed down the 2nd best secondary in football.
Mac Jones also had a promising rookie campaign. 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns helped the Patriots back into the playoffs for the first time since the departure of Tom Brady.
They could easily contend for wild card spots this season, especially with the second year development of Mac Jones. The running. game is solid, but 25th in the passing attack will not cut it.
+4000 seems really high for a team that made the playoffs last season, and has all of their pieces returning. They may not be the favorites to make a divisional run, but you have to pay attention to the playoffs as a whole. If they make it in, anything can happen.
I can see the Patriots as high as the #5 seed in the loaded AFC Conference. I also believe 12 wins is obtainable with the solid defensive numbers they put up each season. It may not be Tom Brady, but Mac Jones has more talent than the lines are showing.
