Packers vs. Eagles Analysis & Breakdown
As It Began, So Shall It End
It feels like just yesterday; it’s Friday night in Brazil and the Eagles and Packers are opening their respective season in heart of São Paulo. Fast forward 18 weeks and here we are, Wild Card Weekend; the Eagles and Packers once again face-off but this time with their season on the line.
Their Week 1 matchup ended in a 34-29 win for the Bird Gang, with Jordan Love exiting the game late with a knee injury. Before leaving the game, Love threw for 260 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
The interception would prove to be a costly one, as the Packers lead at both halftime and lead once again with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter; that is until Jordan Love’s interception at their own 24-yard line. It would take the Eagles exactly 4 plays to get Saquon Barkley into the end zone and they never looked back.
Clash of the Titans
This Packers/Eagles matchup is the only matchup during Wild Card Weekend that has TWO teams with 11+ wins. The Eagles come into this one having won back to back games, both with Jalen Hurts, and having won 12 of their L13 games to finish the year.
Philly’s offense ranks 7th in scoring, averaging 27.2 PPG and 3.2 touchdowns per game. The Eagles #2 ranked rushing offense is lead by Saquon Barkley, who’s looking like he might take home this year’s NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year Award. He’s averaging 125.3 rush yards per game, 5.8 yards per carry and he’s scored 15 touchdowns this year.
Opposite Saquon Barkley, it’s another running back that’s thriving in a new situation, also about make his 2nd ever appearance in the post-season; Josh Jacobs. Jacobs has been a perfect fit for the Green Bay Packers and Head Coach Matt LaFleur. Green Bay’s running the ball more than they ever have under LaFleur and the biggest reason why is Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs’ recorded his 4th ever 1000-yard season this year, averaged just under 80 rush yards per game and set a career-high in touchdowns with 16. Both teams made key additions in the off-season and it’s continuing to pay dividends; it’s only fitting that both these team are set to face off today with their seasons on the line.
Brandon McManus o6.5 Kicking Points (-120)
This feels like a weird play. I haven’t played any kicking props this season but with the way the Packers have left points on the board this year, it feel appropriate. The Packers went 11-6 this season, 5 of their losses have been decided by less than a touchdown and 4 of the losses have been decided by a field goal, or less.
Green Bay added Brandon McManus before their Week 7 matchup with the Houston Texans. McManus has made all 30 of his extra point attempts this year, he’s made 20 of his 21 field goal attempts and a perfect 8 for 8 on the road. Over the span of 11 games this year, McManus has hit this line in 7 games, averaging 8.18 kicking points per game and 1.8 made field goals per game.
The Packers two losses to the Vikings this year came due to points left on the board. In the first of their two matchups, Packers’ then kicker Brayden Narveson missed 2 field goal attempts, both from within 50 yards and the Packers would go on to lose that game by 2 points.
Two weeks ago, once again against the Vikings, the Packers went for it on a crucial 4th down early in that game; they wouldn’t convert and would once again leave points on the board, even going on to lose, once again by 2 points.
The Packers rank 8th in points per game, 10th in red zone efficiency and top-12 in both the pass game and the run game. Philly ranks 5th in opponent red zone effiency and with the home crowd at their back, I could definately see a few key stops by the Eagles defense from within field goal range.
McManus hasn’t played meaningful football since 2015 and when he did he played 3 games in the post-season, he hit all 10 of his 10 field goal attempts AND he was a perfect 2/2 on field goals of 50+ yards.

Jayden Reed o43.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
We’ve bet on Jayden Reed a lot around but this week with no Christian Watson, in a matchup he lit up earlier this year; I’m loving Reed once again. In their Week 1 matchup, Reed recorded 138 receiving yards; hauling 5 of his 6 targets, including one for a touchdown.
Reed saw just 2 targets against the Bears last week, but that might have more to do with Jordan Love only throwing 12 pass attempts than it does with any “Reed issue.”
Over the L2 games, Reed has seen 6 targets for just 3 catches and 54 total yards; he’s so due for some positive regression. On the year, the Eagles have allowed 12/17 starting WR1s they’ve faced to catch 5+ passes, 11 of those wideouts have recorded 54+ receiving yards and just under 50% of them have a scored a touchdown.
