Panthers @ Commanders Analysis & Breakdown
We’re entering Week 7 of the NFL Season, and Andy Dalton is still under center for the Carolina Panthers. Their offense has looked a whole lot better with the Red Rifle at the helm, but they’ve still just won 1 of his 4 starts.
Dalton’s averaging 224 passing yards per contest and he’s thrown 7 touchdowns in just 4 starts. This Carolina offense was 2-17 through 19 games with Bryce Young, they averaged just 16 points per game and scored 20+ points just 5 times.
This year, with Dalton, the Panthers are averaging 20.6 points per game, they’ve put up 10 touchdowns through 4 weeks, and scored 20+ in 3 of his 4 starts; the only game they finished with less than 20 came against the Bears’ defense.
Carolina’s going to need the scoring, especially playing this Commanders offense with Jayden Daniels under center. The Commanders rank 3rd in the league in points per game, averaging 29.7 per game and scoring 3.2 touchdowns per game.
Jayden Daniels has this Washington team playing great football, and having fun while doing it. They’ve been pretty much unstoppable this year, they sit 6th in first downs per game, 3rd in 3rd down conversions, and 2nd in 4th down conversions per game.
If Carolina hopes to stay in this game at all, they’ll need to put the ball in the endzone this week.

Dionte Johnson can still ball, no question about it. Over the last 2/3 seasons, poor quarterback play has been the reason we’ve seen such a big drop in Dionte’s numbers.
Through his first 3 seasons in the league, Dionte averaged 60 receiving yards per game, 5.4 receptions per game and he recorded 20 touchdowns across 47 games. In his last 3 seasons, Johnsons averaging just 4.6 receptions per game, 53 yards and he’s scored just 8 touchdowns in 36 games.
This year it looked to be more of the same, he caught just 5 of his 12 targets, recording just 34 yards in the first two weeks with Bryce Young under center. Since Andy Dalton took over, Johnsons seeing 9.8 targets per game, averaging 5.2 receptions per game and 65 receiving yards.
Johnson’s also recorded a touchdown in 3 of the 5 games together, and he’s coming off a game in which he caught 6 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Johnson sits 2nd among wide receivers this year in red zone targets, and 8 of those 11 targets have come with Dalton under center.
The connection’s undeniable and this week they’re matched up with a bad Commanders’ secondary. Washington’s tied for last in touchdowns given up to opposing wide receivers, 10 of the 12 passing touchdowns they’ve allowed have been to wideouts.
This year they’ve given up touchdown to Ja’Marr Chase (2), Mike Evans (2), Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and so many more; WR1s have continued to have their way with this Commanders’ defense.

Zach Ertz Anytime Touchdown (+240) via BetOnline – Get a $500 WELCOME BONUS
This Commanders offense is potent, they’re scoring 29 points per game and averaging over 3 touchdowns per game. Jayden Daniels has made football fun again in the nation’s capital and it’s so great to see.
Daniels is averaging 234 pass yards per game, he’s thrown just 6 touchdowns but he’s also kept the interceptions to a minimum (2). He’s also recorded a 75% completion rate and he does a great job of keeping the offense out there on the field.
Not only do they rank top 3 in both 3rd down conversions and 4th down conversions this year, but the Commanders have punted just 11 times all year, thats the least amount punts on the season, with 2nd-5th place having already had a bye-week.
Washington ranks 3rd in the NFL in red zone trips, averaging 4.3 per game and over their last 3 games, they’ve converted 64% of those red zone trips into touchdowns.
With all the scoring, I’m targeting someone that’s just incredibly due. Zach Ertz ranks 2nd on the Commanders in targets, receptions, and receiving yards; he’s also seen 5+ targets in 3 of his L4 games.
Ertz has yet to get into the redzone this year, but he’s had his chances. He ranks 4th in redzone targets among tight ends this year, he’s been targeted 5 times but just 2 of those passes were catchable targets; he caught both just not for touchdowns.
This week he lines up against a Panthers defense that’s allowed 12 passing touchdowns on the year, tied with the Commanders for 2nd most on the year. This is the week Ertz finally gets into the endzone.
