See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators take the ice for Game 2 on Thursday night. Colorado has the early series lead, and they absolutely dismantled the Preds on Tuesday.
The Avalanche scored 7 goals in Game 1, including 5 of them in the first period. They were able to chase Nashville goaltender, David Rittich, after just 13 shots on goal.
The absence of Juuse Saros was felt in this game. Colorado took advantage of the inexperienced goaltending, and they jumped out in front, seemingly before the game even started.
Saros will be out for Game 2 as well. The Predators will have to rely on their backup netminders to stop the barrage of Colorado shots. However, they will have to keep the team in the game for more than 15 minutes.

Colorado’s Fast Start
If Tuesday’s first period is any indication on how this series will play out, Nashville might as well pack up and head home. The Avalanche truly looked like the top team in the Western Conference right out of the gate.
They had struggled to keep Nashville contained during their four regular season meetings. They even lost 3 out of 4 games to the Preds this year. However, this playoff team looked like a completely different animal to try and tame.
In Nashville’s last 9 games against Central Division opponents, the Over 1.5 total first period goals marker has hit. The Predators had nothing to contribute to that trend, but Colorado picked up the slack.
Nathan MacKinnon got the Avalanche blowout started on the power play just 2:20 into the game. Only 0:22 later, and Devon Toews found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Over the next 12 minutes, three more Avalanche players beat Nashville’s goaltender, and after 15 minutes of play, it was 5-0.
The Avalanche are going to be the best bet again on Thursday night. They face the same goaltender, David Rittich, that they were able to score on 5 times in 13 shots. They also held Nashville to 25 shots, compared to their own 45 shots.
Colorado has a solid plan on how they will breeze into Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Offense is scoring, defense is limiting shots on goal, and goaltending is keeping pucks out of the net. I predict this to be the case for Game 2 and every game this series.
Predators vs Avalanche Prediction and Best Bets
Predators vs. Avalanche Prediction: Avalanche 5 Predators 2
Predators vs. Avalanche Best Bets: Avalanche -2.5 (+110 at BetOnline Sportsbook), Avalanche -1.5 (-145 at Bovada Sportsbook and -152 at BetUS), and Over 6.5 total goals (-100 at Bovada Sportsbook)
The Avalanche will be putting up goals in this game. Just how many remains to be seen. However, they covered in Game 1 and I expect this to be the case again in Game 2.
The Over 6.5 total goals mark may be hit by Colorado alone in this game. They have the ability to score in bunches. With the responses by Nashville, it should be easy to hit that bet.
