Kraken vs Jets NHL Predictions & Picks (1/16)

Tonight’s game is the first time these teams are meeting since they collide at Climate Pledge Arena back in October. The Jets had the last laugh that night as they picked up a 4-3 overtime win over the Kraken. It was quite the back-and-forth affair until Nikolaj Ehlers scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the extra frame.

The win wasn’t anything new for the Jets, who have dominated the Kraken to the tune of an 8-2 SU record in their last 10 collisions. That run includes a 4-1 SU record at Canadien Life Centre as Winnipeg outscored Seattle 18-15 on aggregate along the way.

There’s a decent chance that success will continue tonight. The Jets have thrived in Winnipeg this season as their 77.1% points percentage at home ranks second-best in the NHL. For comparison, the Kraken’s 43.5 PTS% on the road is the seventh-worst mark.

The Kraken have struggled to find much success away from home ice this season. 

The Kraken’s lack of recent road results is also concerning. Not only are they 3-5-0 in their last eight away games, but each of those losses came by a multi-goal margin. If that isn’t bad enough, they also surrendered 4.3 goals per game in that eight-game stretch.

Even though the Jets have had a few hiccups lately, they’ve begun to turn things around. Scott Arniel’s club is 3-1 SU with a plus 2.5 average scoring margin in its last four games.

The Jets will also benefit from having Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes tonight. The Vezina Trophy favorite has been tremendous this season as he paces his peers in wins (27), goals-against average (1.99), save percentage (.929), shutouts (6), goalie point shares (8.8), and just about every other stat you can think of. He’s also 3-1-0 with a 2.51 GAA, .904 SV%, and one shutout in four career meetings with Seattle.

Meanwhile, the Kraken will hope to see goaltender Joey Daccord break out of his funk. The veteran puck-stopper has only won two of his last eight appearances despite playing to a .916 SV% and 2.37 GAA during that stretch.

Again, the Kraken have lost five of their last eight outings by two-plus goals and they’re in danger of that happening again. The Jets boast seven multi-goal wins in their last 11 games and are coming off a dominant five-goal victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Considering how badly Winnipeg has dominated Seattle since the latter’s existence, another lopsided meeting is likely in the cards.

Look for the Jets to outperform the Kraken in all facets en route to their 31st win of the 2024-25 campaign.
