See Picks & Statistics For The GameA battle between old rivals. The Detroit Red Wings will host the Colorado Avalanche tonight. These 2 teams battled it out in the 90’s for some of the best hockey we have in our history. It will be the first time they play each other this season and we have all the Avalanche vs Red Wings picks.
Both teams are struggling, but let’s start with one. The Avalanche are 14-13-0 and are 4th in the Central Division. Still a lot of time to go, but definitely a surprise to see them struggling a bit. Colorado is coming off a loss to the Canes Thursday night and are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games.
This team is playing very middle of the road. They have almost a .500 record, are .500 in their last 10 games, and are .500 whether home or on the road. They really need to figure out how to back to finishing games and winning them.
On offense, their 3 bigs have picked right up from last season. Hart Trophy winner Nathan Mackinnon has 40 points and a league leading 31 assists. Makar is having another Norris worthy season and Rantanen is quietly having a giant season with 35 points.
Goaltender Alexander Georgiev is expected to start. He is 7-7-0 with a 3.54 GAA and a .867 save percentage. Georgiev will really need some defensive help to get another win.
Detroit comes in looking to end 4-game losing streak
The struggling Red Wings will look to end their4-game skid tonight. They’re 10-12-4 in their last 10 games and are 7th in the Atlantic Division. Detroit is 3-4-3 in their last 10 games and their last lost was to the Senators Thursday night.
Detroit is just like Colorado with playing the same .500 hockey whether at home or on the road. Their offense needs to step it up and give them more of a chance. Ranking 27th in goals scored and 31st in shots on goal per game isn’t cutting it. It is surprising with guys like Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane on the team.
On defense, they allow a good amount of goals and a ton of shots on net. They do have the worst penalty kill in the league which will hurt them vs a strong Avalanche power play. Colorado also doesn’t allow a lot of shots on goal, so Detroit will have to make them count.
The Red Wings went out and got goalie Cam Talbot from the Kings who is out with a lower body injury. Ville Husso is expected in net and he is not having a good season so far. Husso has a 0-3-2 record with a 3.69 GAA and a .877 save percentage. He’ll be looking for his first win this season.

I think this is a good bounce back spot for the Red Wings at home. They need to break this losing streak and at home vs a struggling Colorado team is the time to do it. They will need to get the scoring going though.
The Avalanche allow the most goals allowed per game, so the Red Wings will need to take advantage. If they can get Colorado to commit a few stupid penalties, it gives their offense the edge in front. Detroit has the 6th best power play in the league.
Husso needs to get the monkey off his back as well. Getting a win would be huge for him and this team moving forward. He should get over his saves line which should be around 26-28 saves. I expect the Avalanche to put up a ton of shots, but they won’t make them all count.
We’re getting some value on shots on goal for guys. I like Vladimir Tarasenko to record 2 or more shots on goal for -114. The guy has hit this 86% of the time vs the Avalanche. I’ll take that value all day for 2 shots. For a plus money play, I like Dylan Larkin to record an assist for +140. He has recorded at least 1 in his last 4 games straight vs them.
